Wetting ability of an acetone/based etch rinse adhesive after NaOCl-treatment

Objectives: to evaluate the effect of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treatment on surface dentin roughness (Ra) and contact angle (CA) when using Prime&Bond NT adhesive (PB NT). Study Design: Extracted human third molars were sectioned to expose flat, superficial and deep dentin surfaces. CA and Ra were measured (1) before and (2) after 35% H3PO4 etching, and (3) H3PO4 etching + 5% NaOCl treated for 2 minutes before the application of PB NT. Background To evaluate the effect of two different deproteinizing agents (5.25% sodium hypochlorite and Papacarie®) prior to acid etching on the shear bond strength and microleakage of a fissure sealant material. Cells from metazoan organisms are eliminated in a variety of physiological and pathophysiological processes by apoptosis. In this report, we describe the cloning and characterization of molecules from the marine sponges Geodia cydonium and Suberites domuncula, whose domains show a high similarity to those that are found in molecules of the vertebrate Bcl-2 superfamily and of the death receptors. The Bcl-2 proteins contain up to four Bcl-2 homology regions (BH). Two Bcl-2-related molecules have been identified from sponges that are provided with two of those regions, BH1 and BH2, and are termed Bcl-2 homology proteins (BHP). Caspase-mediated apoptosis in sponges: cloning and function of the phylogenetic oldest apoptotic proteases from Metazoa

AbstractSponges (phylum Porifera) represent the phylogenetically oldest metazoan phylum. These animals have complex cell adhesion and powerful immune systems which allow the formation of a distinct body plan. Consequently, an apoptotic machinery has to be predicted that allows sponges to eliminate unwanted cells accumulating during development. With the marine sponge Geodia cydonium, it is shown that allografts of these animals undergo apoptosis as demonstrated by apoptotic DNA fragmentation. Expression of one sponge Iroquois homeobox gene in primmorphs from Suberites domuncula during canal formation

SUMMARY Sponges (Porifera) represent the evolutionary oldest multicellular animals. They are provided with the basic molecules involved in cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions. We report here the isolation and characterization of a complementary DNA from the sponge Suberites domuncula coding for the sponge homeobox gene, SUBDOIRX-a. The deduced polypeptide with a predicted Mr of 44,375 possesses the highly conserved Iroquois-homeodomain. We applied in situ hybridization to localize Iroquois in the sponge. Information entropy-based classification of triterpenoids and steroids from Ganoderma

Abstract A set of 71 triterpenoid and steroid compounds from Ganoderma were periodically classified using a procedure based on information entropy with artificial intelligence. Six features were used in hierarchical order to classify the triterpenoids and steroids structurally. The phytochemicals belonging to the same group in the periodic table present similar antioxidant activity, and those compounds belonging to the same period exhibit maximum resemblance. Molecular composition and chemotaxonomic aspects of Eocene amber from the Ameki Formation, Nigeria

The molecular composition of fossil resin from the Eocene Ameki Formation, southern Nigeria has been analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and thermochemolysis gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to determine the structural class and botanical source of the resin. The pyrolysis products were dominated by bicyclic products derived from regular labdatriene structure and lacked succinic acid indicating Class Ib type amber. The biomarker compositions in the pyrolysates are dominated by sesquiterpenoids of the cadinane and bisabolane classes that are common constituents of higher plants and labdane type diterpenoids. The Fluorite/Water Interfaces: Structure and Spectroscopy from First Principles Simulations

Despite its relevance to industrial, environmental and medical application, the fluorite/water interface still lacks a microscopic/atomistic characterization. In this contribution we provide the first atomistic description of such interface using first principles molecular dynamics simulations. Our models, which explore a wide range of pH, are able to provide a rational of the recent vibrational spectroscopy experiments. In particular we find that at neutral pH the water at the interface is disordered, in agreement with the experimental data, and explaining why no Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation (VSFG) signal is recorded. New Biologically Active Triterpene-Saponins fromRandia dumetorum

Two new triterpene-saponins, 3-O-[O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----3)-( beta- D-glucuronopyranosyl)]oleanolic acid (1), 3-O-[O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----6)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl- (1----3)-(beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl)]oleanolic acid (2) together with five known saponins (3-7) were isolated from the methanolic extract of the fruits of Randia dumetorum (Retz) Lam. (Rubiaceae). Their structures were established on the basis of chemical and spectral data. The compounds 1, 3, 4, 5 were found to enhance significantly the proliferation of human lymphocytes in vitro. The crude saponin fraction showed haemolytic, molluscicidal, and immunostimulating activities.
