Cycloartane-type Glycosides from Two Species of Astragalus (Fabaceae)

Three known cycloartane-type glycosides were isolated from the roots of two different species of Astragalus, A. glycyphyllos, A. sempervirens. The identification of these compounds were mainly achieved by 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques and FAB-MS. The results of our studies confirm that triterpene saponins from the cycloartane-type skeleton might be chemotaxonomically significant to the genus Astragalus.

Phytochemistry of Weigela x “kosteriana variegata” (Caprifoliaceae)

One new triterpene glycoside 3- O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→4)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyloleanolic acid, was isolated from Weigela x “kosteriana variegata” (Caprifoliaceae), with three known ones. Their structures were characterized by a combination of mass spectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR spectrocopic techniques including 1H- and 13C NMR, COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC experiments. The toxicological properties of some glycosides were determined with a zebrafish-based assay. The results show that the most active compounds were toxic to the larvae in the range of 1 μM.

Triterpene Saponins from the Fruits of Phytolacca rugosa (Phytolaccaceae)

Four known serjanic acid glycosides were isolated from the fruits of Phytolacca rugosa and characterized mainly by 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. This aglycon has a chemotaxonomic significance for the genus Phytolacca.

CaSO4 and its pressure-induced phase transitions. A density functional theory study

Theoretical investigations concerning possible calcium sulfate, CaSO(4), high-pressure polymorphs have been carried out. Total-energy calculations and geometry optimizations have been performed by using density functional theory at the B3LYP level for all crystal structures considered. The following sequence of pressure-driven structural transitions has been found: anhydrite, Cmcm (in parentheses the transition pressure) → monazite-type, P2(1)/n (5 GPa) → barite-type, Pnma (8 GPa), and scheelite-type, I4(1)/a (8 GPa). Low temperature measurements by infrared spectroscopy in $CoFe_2O_4$ ceramic

In this paper results of new far-infrared and middle-infrared measurements (wavenumber range of 4000cm-1 - 100cm-1) in the range of the temperature from 300K to 8K of the CoFe2O4 ceramic are presented. The bands positions and their shapes are the same in the wide temperature range. The quality of the sample was investigated by X-ray, EDS and EPMA studies. The CoFe2O4 reveals the cubic structure (Fd-3m) in the temperature range from 85K to 360 K without any traces of distortion. On the current level of knowledge the polycrystalline CoFe2O4 does not exhibit phase transition in the temperature range from 8 K to 300 K.

Investigations of Low Temperature Phase Transitions in BiFeO3Ceramic by Infrared Spectroscopy

In this paper, results of new infrared FIR-MIR measurements (wavenumber range of 4000–100 cm−1) in the range of the temperature 300 ÷ 8 K of the BiFeO3 ceramic are presented. Below 200 K only one symmetric band at ca. 800 cm−1 is visible. The full width at half maximum of this band decreases exponentially on cooling. The shape of the band at ca. 545 cm−1connected with A1 (TO) mode also changes between 60–40 K, this is in the vicinity of the phase transition at 50 K. Initially a broad band reveals its components as shoulder bands. Theirs FWHM decrease with cooling.

Potassic dyke swarm in the Sapucai Graben, Eastern Paraguay: Petrographical, mineralogical and geochemical outlines.

Abstract The western side of the Parana Basin of Brazil extends to central Paraguay, where repeated and widespread magmatic activity developed from Lower Cretaceous to Oligocene, associated with late Mesozoic crustal extension trending NE-SW. In central Paraguay this trend is characterized by a zone of NW-SE normal faults which formed the Asuncion-Sapucai graben, up to 45 km wide and 200 km long, where alkaline rocks occur as volcanic domes, complexes, lava-flows and dykes. These rocks, 128 Ma aged, are dominantly potassic and ne-normative. Direct determination of total mercury in phosphate rock using alkaline fusion digestion

The aim of this work was to develop a new method to determine the mercury (Hg) concentrations in phosphate rock using a dedicated analytical instrument (the DMA80 Tricell by Milestone) that employs an integrated sequence of thermal decomposition followed by catalyst conversion, amalgamation and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. However, this instrument underestimates Hg concentrations when phosphorite and apatite rocks are investigated with a classic thermal decomposition treatment that complies with US EPA method 7473.
