Unholy alliance or way of the future?
2021
This chapter observes how recent Finnish municipal and regional cultural strategies signify and value culture. On the basis of a thematic analysis of 21 strategies, I construct three main categories of their 'culture speech': the first is to approach culture as an instrument that unites different administrative sectors, on the one hand, and helps them to achieve extra-cultural – mostly social and economic – objectives, on the other. The second, is where culture is attached to individuals and communities and their expressions. It is also seen as an 'instrument' benefitting and serving them. The third, is economic. Culture is associated with the cultural and creative industries, and with econ…
Solving multiobjective optimization problems with decision uncertainty: an interactive approach
2018
We propose an interactive approach to support a decision maker to find a most preferred robust solution to multiobjective optimization problems with decision uncertainty. A new robustness measure that is understandable for the decision maker is incorporated as an additional objective in the problem formulation. The proposed interactive approach utilizes elements of the synchronous NIMBUS method and is aimed at supporting the decision maker to consider the objective function values and the robustness of a solution simultaneously. In the interactive approach, we offer different alternatives for the decision maker to express her/his preferences related to the robustness of a solution. To conso…
Real wages-employment relationship in Finnish manufacturing: a VAR approach
1991
Granger's concept of causality and the vector autoregressive(VAR) technique is used to investigate the real wages-employment relationship in Finnish manufacturing. The stationarity of the time series is examined and a number of co-integration tests for the adequacy of a pure VAR specification performed. The results using a bivariate VAR model based on a lag structure determined by Akaike's information criterion suggests that real wages Granger-cause employment. The slight non-constancy of the model suggests, however, that the conclusion concerning the nature of the real wages-emploment relationship should be treated with causion.

Changes may have been made to this work since it was submitted for publication. A definitive version was subsequently published in World Development, 39(5), 758-772 http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.worlddev.2010.10.008 This paper uses a global data set of 350 microfinance institutions (MFIs) in 70 countries to study the common belief that women are generally better credit risks in microfinance than men. The r…
Ethical preferences for influencing superiors: A 41-society study
2009
With a 41-society sample of 9990 managers and professionals, we used hierarchical linear modeling to investigate the impact of both macro-level and micro-level predictors on subordinate influence ethics. While we found that both macro-level and micro-level predictors contributed to the model definition, we also found global agreement for a subordinate influence ethics hierarchy. Thus our findings provide evidence that developing a global model of subordinate ethics is possible, and should be based upon multiple criteria and multilevel variables. Ranking farms with a composite indicator of sustainability
2011
The assessment of sustainability at farm level has been growing in popularity over the last few years. This article contributes to this line of research by building up composite indicators for different facets—social, economic, environmental, and global—of farm sustainability using a methodological approach that combines data envelopment analysis (DEA) and multicriteria decision making (MCDM) methods, and assigns common weights to each individual sustainability indicator. This approach is applied to a database of 163 farms located in the Campos County, a region belonging to the dry lands of the Spanish Northern Plateau, using 12 individual indicators of sustainability. Our findings show tha…
Unawareness and bankruptcy: A general equilibrium model
1998
International audience; We present a consistent pure-exchange general equilibrium model where agents may not be able to foresee all possible future contingencies. In this context, even with nominal assets and complete asset markets, an equilibrium may not exist without appropriate assumptions. Specific examples are provided. An existence result is proved under the main assumption that there are sufficiently many states that all the agents foresee. An intrinsic feature of the model is bankruptcy, which agents may involuntarily experience in the unforeseen states.
Debitoru parādu vadība
2015
Bakalaura darba mērķis: analīzes pamatā, noteikt debitoru parādu stāvokli, rast efektivitāi debitoru parādu vadīšanā, kas veicinātu uzņēmuma SIA „RHS” finansiālā stāvokļa uzlabošanu kopumā (uz SIA „RHS” piemērā). Pētījuma odjekts: Uzņēmums SIA „RHS”. Pētījuma priekšmets: Uzņēmuma debitoru parādi 2013. gadā, to attīstības tendences salīdzināšana ar 2012. gada rādītājiem. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no 3. nodaļām. – 2013.gadu. Atslēgvārdi: debitoru parādi…
MULTICRITERIA OPTIMAL DESIGN OF CONTINUOUS CIRCULAR PLATES
2010
The paper is devoted to a quite general version of the multicriteria optimal (minimum volume) design of axisymmetric circular plates. The constitutive material is considered as elastic perfectly plastic without any ductility limit and the actions are assumed as quasi-statically variable within a given load domain. In the design problem formulation different resistance criteria are considered, in order to investigate all the possible structural limit responses, and for each one a suitably chosen safety factor is chosen. The optimal design problem is formulated as the search for the minimum structure volume according with a statical approach. The features of the optimal structures will be stu…
Efficient Low-Frequency Modal Analysis of Anechoic Chamber
2007
An efficient method to analyze the electromagnetic field inside rectangular anechoic and semianechoic chambers from 30 to 100 MHz is shown. A modal expansion is employed to develop the homogeneous and the inhomogeneous field. This is combined with circuital techniques to compute the effect of the layers of ferrite and dielectrics in the walls of the chamber. Several numerical results of the Free Space Transmission Loss (FSTL) of an anechoic chamber and the Normalized Site Attenuation (NSA) of a semianechoic chamber are provided.
