Flashing light signaling circuit in sponges: Endogenous light generation after tissue ablation in Suberites domuncula

The skeleton of siliceous sponges (phylum Porifera: classes Demospongiae and Hexactinellida), composed of tightly interacting spicules that assemble to a genetically fixed scaffold, is formed of bio-silica. This inorganic framework with the quality of quartz glass has been shown to operate as light waveguide in vitro and very likely has a similar function in vivo. Furthermore, the molecular toolkit for endogenous light generation (luciferase) and light/photon harvesting (cryptochrome) has been identified in the demosponge Suberites domuncula. Recent Developments in our Approach to Multiple-Criteria Decision Making

Approximately ten years ago we began a study of multiple criteria decision making at the European Insti tute for Advanced Studies in Management in Brussels. The project started as a way of finding a multiple objective linear programming method that would work better than those tested by Wallenius (1975). We did a substantial amount of work on the problem and came up with such a method (Zionts and Wallenius, 1976). Wallenius’ (1975) thesis, one of the first outputs of that project, comprises a rather significant piece of research in the multiple criteria area. Since that time our work has continued. Strong-Verb Paradigm Leveling in Four Germanic Languages: A Category Frequency Approach

We investigated strong-verb paradigm leveling in German, Dutch, English, and Swedish, and found significant differences in ablaut leveling and class change towards the weak conjugation. Swedish favors ablaut patterns retaining a difference between the preterite and the past participle, while German, Dutch, and English favor a common vowel for both forms. In change from the strong to the weak conjugation in Swedish, the preterite is more resistant than the past participle, while in the other languages it is the reverse. ABSTRACT: This article studies the ceremonial funeral rites for Prince Baltasar Carlos of Austria, son of Philip IV and the hope for the healing of a monarchy in crisis, in the exequies celebrated in the city of Zaragoza, where the young heir to the throne died shortly before his seventeenth birthday, in 1646. The monumental catafalque erected in the plaza of the market place (a fantastic ephemeral tumulus characterized by a splendid Baroque architecture full of symbols), demonstrates the magnificence with which the death of such a beloved prince was presented to the public, in the second third of the seventeenth century. This article seeks to investigate the changing perception of the term “translation” in feminist TS thanks to a continuous dialogue with other fields such as, feminist literary criticism, post-structuralism, postcolonial studies and cultural studies that have borrowed and utilised the notion of translation. “Translation” has become a “travelling concept” for feminist scholars who have utilized it in a metaphorical way for a feminist critique of language and ideology. Artikkelissa tarkastelemme Yleisten kielitutkintojen suomen kielen arvioijien (N = 44) käsityksiä suomenruotsalaisten puhujien (N = 9) oletetusta ensikielestä. Tutkimuksemme aineisto perustuu Suomen Akatemian rahoittamaan Rikkinäistä Suomea: Aksenttien arviointi yhteiskunnallisena portinvartijana (2018– 2022) -hankkeeseen, jossa tutkitaan vieraan aksentin vaikutusta suullisen kielitaidon arvioinnissa. Evidence against linkage of schizophrenia to chromosome 5q11-q13 markers in systematically ascertained families.

Ten pedigrees systematically ascertained in Germany were tested for linkage to chromosome 5q11-q13. In order to replicate the previous report by Sherrington et al (1988), families with a bipolar family member were omitted from the lod score calculations, all diagnoses were based upon Research Diagnostic Criteria, and four different models of the affection status were calculated, including the model for which Sherrington et al calculated the highest lod scores. None of the families investigated showed a positive lod score. Using multipoint linkage analyses, we were able to exclude the region for which a positive linkage has been reported.
