Summary : Ever since the Church lost its monopoly on the sacred, no longer able to solely determine its form or contents, the social sphere has gradually taken over this value, applying it to new human and social objects. As a result, the modes of expression of the sacred have multiplied, along with the subjective and intimate experiences of modern individualism. Among the vast number of potential manifestations of this value, to which almost everything now seems to aspire, this paper will concentrate on commercial brands as vectors of meaning, with the hypothesis that some of them seek to position themselves, in postmodern society, as new figures of the sacred. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan suistamolaiselta itkijältä Matjoi Plattoselta vuosina 1908−1920 tallennettuja kuolinrituaalien kuvauksia ja niihin liittyviä itkuvirsiä siirtymäriittiteorian avulla. Tutkimuksen aineiston Plattosen kanssa ovat tuottaneet Matti Kaisla, U. T. Sirelius ja A. O. Väisänen. The article is an attempt to solve the enigma on the potential advantages of the Polish language that comes from the line to the person who will read from Zwierzyniec Mikołaj Rej. The author reviews the most famous and popular meanings of the symbols geese from antiquity to the Renaissance times. Indicated is a long road traveled by this positively associated theme until symbol geese has become synonymous mindless chatter. The opposite of the “idle talk” is the work of Miko³aj Rej, who was the father of Polish literature, hoisted our national culture to new heights.

The paper aims at underlining the relationships between the iconography of terracotta figurines and the ritual practices. As case study the pinakes depicting a group of standing/playing and dancing maidens are treated, and the whole "votive system" to which they belong is analyzed.
Extended Families as Communities of Religious Experience in Late Seventeenth-Century Eastern Finland

AbstractThis chapter offers an interpretation of extended families as communities of experience in a rural area close to the eastern border of the Swedish realm. Through a case study of lower court records, Kuha examines the social and religious life in a 17th-century farm culminating in the crisis of an extended family. The chapter explores how practices of lived religion shaped the relationship of the community and the individual, and how experiences were negotiated within families and local communities. The analysis highlights the importance of protecting the boundaries of the household as well as the meaning of religious practices in creating cohesion within the community.
