Cyber security of vehicle CAN bus
2019
There are currently many research projects underway concerning the intelligent transport system (ITS), with the intent to develop a variety of communication solutions between vehicles, roadside stations and services. In the near future, the roll-out of 5G networks will improve short-range vehicle-to-vehicle traffic and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. More extensive services can be introduced due to almost non-delayed response time. Cyber security is central for the usability of the services and, most importantly, for car safety. The Controller Area Network (CAN) is an automation bus that was originally designed for real-time data transfer of distributed control systems to cars. La…
Prediction of significant renal function decline after open, laparoscopic, and robotic partial nephrectomy: External validation of the Martini’s nomo…
2022
Objectives: Martini et al. developed a nomogram to predict significant (>25%) renal function loss after robot-assisted partial nephrectomy and identified four risk categories. We aimed to externally validate Martini’s nomogram on a large, national, multi-institutional data set including open, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted partial nephrectomy. Methods: Data of 2584 patients treated with partial nephrectomy for renal masses at 26 urological Italian centers (RECORD2 project) were collected. Renal function was assessed at baseline, on third postoperative day, and then at 6, 12, 24, and 48 months postoperatively. Multivariable models accounting for variables included in the Martini’s nomog…
Mechatronic Design of a Four-Wheel drive mobile robot and differential steering
2021
This paper presents, the development of an autonomous mobile robot with a four-wheel drive and differential locomotion. The mobile robot was developed in the Machines and Industrial Equipment Department from the Engineering Faculty of Sibiu. The main purpose of developing this type of mobile platform was the ability to transport different types of cargo either in industrial spaces or on rough terrain. Another important objective was that this platform could be driven in confined or tight spaces where a high degree of manoeuvrability is necessary. The great advantage of this type of mobile platform is the ability to navigate through narrow spaces due to the type of locomotion implemented. Th…
Task Planner for Robotic Disassembly of Electric Vehicle Battery Pack
2021
The rapidly growing deployment of Electric Vehicles (EV) put strong demands on the development of Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIBs) but also into its dismantling process, a necessary step for circular economy. The aim of this study is therefore to develop an autonomous task planner for the dismantling of EV Lithium-Ion Battery pack to a module level through the design and implementation of a computer vision system. This research contributes to moving closer towards fully automated EV battery robotic dismantling, an inevitable step for a sustainable world transition to an electric economy. For the proposed task planner the main functions consist in identifying LIB components and their locations, …

Dual Perspectives on the Role of Artificially Intelligent Robotic Virtual Agents in the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Industries
2018
Robotics and artificial intelligence are challenging extant business services and fundamentally impacting business relationships and processes. While studies have elaborately investigated social robotic interactions in medical and health-related domains, studies are limited on artificially intelligent robotic virtual agents (AIRVA) and their impacts on consumer behavior in tourism and hospitality services. Building on the theories of user experience (UX), user interface (UI) and customer experience, this study conceptually examines the dual-value effects of AIRVA to the customer and the firm. It analyzes the customer journey and highlights critical touchpoints AIRVA deepens the customer exp…
Robotization of Mobile Communication
2020
The aim of this chapter is to systematize the discussion regarding robotization of mobile communication. The chapter begins by clarifying the fundamental role of both robot hardware and robot software in this process. This is followed by a critical overview of existing research, which is classified into three categories. First, robotization is understood as the hybridization of the human body with existing ordinary mobile devices. Second, the incorporation of new robotic software, such as algorithms, artificial intelligence, and virtual assistants, into mobile devices is seen to robotize them from inside. Third, the convergence of smart communication devices, typically as user interfaces wi…
Robotic i.v. medication compounding: Recommendations from the international community of APOTECAchemo users.
2016
Purpose The development of recommendations for advancing automated i.v. medication compounding is described. Summary Managing the shift from manual to robotic compounding of i.v. therapies requires an awareness of how automation affects practice and how to best implement robotics into current practice. An international panel of pharmacy professionals, researchers, and technology leaders with experience in i.v. robotics collaborated during a two-day meeting in August 2014 to define a general set of principles to broaden the understanding of the fundamental elements of robotic compounding worldwide. Participants were divided into four working groups (technology and safety; drugs and products;…
Ethical Stance and Evolving Technosexual Culture : A Case for Human-Computer Interaction
2021
Issues relating to ethics and how moral principles evolve are imminently engrained in culture. Culture and technology cannot be separated from one another, as both are processes and reflections of social cognition and experience through action and practice. Technology is the embodiment of values and enabler of culture. As technology develops and human relationships to information technology (IT) become ever more intricate and intimate the cultural framework underpinning values and ethics also morphs. The Internet is everywhere and humans are reliant on it for everything from banking to maintaining family relationships. Anything an individual could possibly desire can be found within the mas…
Robotic Esophagectomy: The European Experience
2021
In 2003, robot-assisted minimally invasive thoraco-laparoscopic esophagectomy (RAMIE) was developed to overcome the technical limitations of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE). Robotic surgery benefits from a stable three-dimensional, magnified view and articulated instruments enabling precise dissection with 7 degrees of freedom of movement. At the time of introduction of RAMIE in 2003, there were no robotic endowristed coagulating instruments available. The dissection of the greater curvature along the gastroepiploic vessels with a rigid robotic ultrasonic scalpel did not add to conventional laparoscopic dissection. Furthermore, the dexterity of the robotic arms was insufficient to re…
