International audience; BACKGROUND: The relation between fragmented QRS complex (fQRS) and cardiac magnetic resonance parameters is poorly documented in ischemic cardiopathy. METHODS: Among 209 consecutive patients, those with fQRS were compared with those without fQRS. Cardiac magnetic resonance studies with late gadolinium-enhanced sequences were done during the week after acute myocardial infarction. Deafness and electrocardiographic changes (prolongation of the Q-T interval and inversion of the T wave) with a clinical picture of syncopal attacks and sudden death, were described as a distinct syndrome by Jervell and Lange-Nielsen in 1957. The syndrome is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. In this study, all the cases reported since 1957 and their proposed prevalence are reviewed. Aims: To gain insight in the prognosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) patients during 1-year follow-up in the Euro Heart Survey (EHS) on AF. Methods and results: The EHS enrolled 5333 AF patients in 2003-2004. One-year follow-up data were available for 80%. Of first detected AF patients, 46% did not have a recurrence during 1 year, paroxysmal AF largely remained paroxysmal AF (80%), and 30% of persistent AF progressed to permanent AF. Many treatment changes occurred since baseline. Oral anticoagulation was started in 19% and discontinued in 16% of all patients. Objective was to assess whether SSS patients had a typical HRV profile. METHODS: We screened all 1947 consecutive Holter ECGs performed in our Units of Vascular Medicine and Internal Medicine and Cardioangiology at the University of Palermo (Italy) from April 2010 to September 2014.
