Background Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) increases the risk of cardiovascular complications during and following the episode. The study of cardiovascular dynamics is pivotal in the prevention and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases. Pulse Arrival Time (PAT) series contain information concerning not only the dynamics of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), but of all the systems involved in the regulation of cardiovascular homeostasis. This study aims to highlight how indexes extracted from PAT series in time-, frequency- and information-domain allow to discriminate among different physiological conditions. Room-temperature polariton luminescence from a bulk GaN microcavity

We report strong exciton-photon coupling at room temperature in a hybrid high quality bulk 3 lambda/2 GaN cavity with a bottom lattice-matched AlInN/AlGaN distributed Bragg reflector through angle-resolved polarized photoluminescence (PL). Coupling of the optically active free excitons (X-A, X-B, and X-C) to the cavity mode is demonstrated, with their contribution to the PL spectra varying with polarization. Under TE polarization, exciton oscillator strengths for X-A and X-B are about one order of magnitude larger than in bulk GaAs. Photoluminescence exhibits a strong bottleneck effect despite its thermal lineshape.

Abstract The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) plays a key role in the regulation of gene expression in metabolic machinery and detoxification systems. In the recent years, this receptor has attracted interest as a therapeutic target for immunological, oncogenic and inflammatory conditions. In the present report, in silico and in vitro approaches were combined to study the activation of the AhR. Phonon-induced polariton superlattices

We show that the coherent interaction between microcavity polaritons and externally stimulated acoustic phonons forms a tunable polariton superlattice with a folded energy dispersion determined by the phonon population and wavelength. Under high phonon concentration, the strong confinement of the optical and excitonic polariton components in the phonon potential creates weakly coupled polariton wires with a virtually flat energy dispersion.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the potential association between occupational exposure to chlorinated and petroleum solvents and mycosis fungoides (MF).METHODS: A questionnaire on lifetime job history was administered to 100 patients diagnosed with MF and 2846 controls. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated as the measure of the association between exposure to each specific solvent and MF.RESULTS: In the total sample and in men, cases and controls did not differ in relation to exposure to any of the solvents studied.
