Ventricular Fibrillation detection using time-frequency and the KNN classifier without parameter extraction

2017

Dofetilide effects on the inhibition by trains of subthreshold conditioning stimuli.

2004

We investigated the electrophysiological actions of dofetilide upon the ventricular myocardium to determine whether the drug modifies the inhibitory effects of subthreshold stimuli trains upon ventricular refractoriness. In nine Langendorff perfused rabbit hearts, ventricular epicardial electrodes were used to determine the following parameters at baseline and during dofetilide perfusion (0.5 micromolar): effective (ERP) and functional (FRP) refractory periods, conduction velocity (CV), wavelength (WL), and ERP prolongation (inhibitory effect) induced by subthreshold stimuli trains (STr) at pulse frequencies of 100, 300, and 600 Hz. Dofetilide significantly prolongs ventricular refractorine…

The Role of Cardiac Pacing in Heart Block Complicating Acute Myocardial Infarction

1983

The organization of the Coronary Care Unit and the use of electrocardiographic monitoring have allowed a re-evaluation of the incidence of the atrioventricular conduction disturbances in acute myocardial infarction.

Are double potentials markers of a specific zone of the atrioventricular junction in the isolated rabbit heart?

1997

A study is made of the characteristics of the atrial potentials recorded in the Koch triangle and its proximity, their variations on modifying the site of cardiac pacing, and their usefulness as markers of a distinct zone of the AV junction. In 12 isolated and perfused rabbit heart preparations an analysis was made of the endocardial atrial electrograms recorded with a multiple electrode positioned in the AV junction. The electrograms were obtained during spontaneous rhythm and on pacing at the crista terminalis (CT), interatrial septum (IAS), left atrium, and right ventricle. Double potentials were frequently obtained. On pacing at the CT, high-low double potentials (DP [H-L]) were more fr…

A rare case of a coronary artery anomaly detected on multidetector computed tomography

2013

An anomalous aortic origin of the coronary artery arising from the opposite sinus with an interarterial course is a rare condition that is associated with a high risk of sudden cardiac death during or after strenuous exertion. We herein report the case of a 47-year-old woman presenting with chest pain, syncope and palpitations who presented with a rare coronary artery anomaly on multidetector computed tomography coronary artery (MDCT-CA) with prospective electrocardiogram (ECG) gating.

Cocaine-induced coronary thrombosis and acute myocardial infarction

2004

A 26-year-old man was admitted to our hemodynamic laboratory because of an anterior AMI and post myocardial infarction angina. He is an active smoker (10 cigarettes/day) and consumes inhaled cocaine during weekends (the last consumption of cocaine was 1 week ago). No others risk factors were recorded. Initial electrocardiogram shows sinus rhythm and anterior QS complex (V1–V3) with anterolateral ST segment elevation (V1–V5, D1 and aVL). Creatine-kinase isoenzyme MB and Troponin I were elevated at arrival. Upon admission, the patient was normotensive but with signs of pulmonary congestion. Ventriculography showed anterolateral and apical hypokinesia with an ejection fraction of 21%. Coronari…

Fibrosis markers and CRIM1 increase in chronic heart failure of increasing severity.

2014

AbstractBackground: Fibrosis suppressors/activators in chronic heart failure (CHF) is a topic of investigation.Aim: To quantify serum levels of fibrosis regulators in CHF.Methods: ELISA tests were used to quantify fibrosis regulators, procollagen type-(PIP)I, (PIP)III, collagen-I, III, BMP1,2,3,7, SDF1α, CXCR4, fibulin 1,2,3, BMPER, CRIM1 and BAMBI in 66 CHF (NYHA class I, n = 9; II, n = 34; III n = 23), and in 14 controls. Results: In CHF, TGFβR2, PIPIII, SDF1α and CRIM1 were increased. PIPIII correlated with CRIM1.Conclusions: The BMPs inhibitor CRIM1 is increased and correlates with higher levels of serum PIPIII showing an imbalance in favor of pro-fibrotic mechanisms in CHF.

Non Invasive Imaging of Myocardial Infarction with Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance

2012

Myocardial infarction is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. Myocardial infarction may represent a major catastrophic event leading to severe hemodynamic failure or sudden death or it may occur repeatedly in patients with established heart disease. In this context, the role of imaging techniques may become useful for the understanding of the determinants in a preclinical setting before acute coronary events, and for an accurate and correct diagnosis of myocardial infarction. Three-dimensional noninvasive imaging techniques, such as Cardiac CT (CCT) and Cardiac MR imaging (CMR) were widely developed in the last two decades. These imaging techniques may provide new insights into …
