<p>The La Fossa cone of Vulcano Island (Aeolian Archipelago, Italy) is a closed conduit volcano. Today, Vulcano Island is characterized by sulfataric activity, with a large fumarolic field that is mainly located in the summit area. A scanning differential optical absorption spectroscopy instrument designed by the Optical Sensing Group of Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden, was installed in the framework of the European project "Network for Observation of Volcanic and Atmospheric Change", in March 2008. Bakalaura darbā aplūkota Latvijas Padomju RS darbība laika posmā no 1944. līdz 1956. g., kā galveno avotu izmantojot RS valdes sēžu protokolus. Darbā mēģināts aplūkot RS, kas līdz šim galvenokārt pētīta saistībā ar literatūrzinātnes jautājumiem, kā vēstures zinātnes izpētes objektu, tāpēc uzmanība galvenokārt vērsta uz tiem darbības aspektiem, kas mazāk saistīti ar literatūras un radošajiem procesiem un vairāk ar organizācijas sociālpolitisko darbību. Avotu izpētes gaitā izdalīti trīs RS darbības virzieni, kuri, autoraprāt, uzskatāmi atspoguļo tās vietu un uzdevumus politiskās varas hierarhijā. Bakalaura darbā sniegts pārskats par mediju darbības nosacījumiem, preses kontroles mehānismu autoritārā un totalitārā sistēmā. Analizējot un salīdzinot populārzinātniskā žurnāla “Atpūta” informāciju, kas publicēta autoritārā režīma pēdējos mēnešos un pēc padomju okupācijas, kad Latvijā tika ieviests totalitārs režīms, fiksētas būtiskas pārmaiņas izdevuma saturā. Šīs pārmaiņas atspoguļo autoritāra un totalitāra režīma atšķirīgo ietekmi uz mediju vidi. Konstatēts, ka autoritārā režīma apstākļos izdevējam un redaktoriem vēl bija iespējams manevrēt starp plašās lasītāju sabiedrības un varas noteikto diktātu. Metallic nanoparticle enrichment at low temperature, shallow CO2 seeps in Southern Italy

We report on metal enrichment along a natural pH gradient owing to increased CO2 degassing at cold, shallow seeps of Vulcano Island in the Mediterranean Sea, off Sicily. We assessed composition of unfiltered and filtered seawater (<100 nm) along acidic zones ranging between ambient and pH 5, and showed that most seep derived elements are present as nanoclusters which then aggregate into larger colloids while mixing with ambient seawater along a pH gradient. In order to increase fuel economy and reduce pollutant emissions in the last decades light duty spark ignition (SI) engines have become smaller, supercharged and equipped with direct injection. A suitable alternative to oil derived fuel is represented by gaseous fuels, such as Natural Gas (NG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), whose higher knock resistance and better mixing capabilities substantially improve vehicle fuel economy and pollutant emissions. Dynamic wavefront sensing and correction with low-cost twisted nematic spatial light modulators

Off-the-shelf spatial light modulators (SLMs), like twisted nematic liquid crystal displays (TNLCDs) used in projection systems, show some interesting features such as high spatial resolution, easy handling, wide availability, and low cost. We describe a compact adaptive optical system using just one TNLCD to measure and compensate optical aberrations. The current system operates at a frame rate of the order of 10 Hz with a four-level codification scheme. Wavefront estimation is performed through conventional Hartmann–Shack sensing architecture. Evaluation of the Effects of a Bullying at Work Intervention for Middle Managers.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of a workplace bullying intervention based on the training of middle managers regarding bullying awareness, the consequences of bullying, strategies in conflict resolution and mediation/negotiation abilities. Overall, 142 randomly selected middle managers participated in the study. First, participants completed an information record and two scales assessing bullying strategies, role conflict and role ambiguity. The last two scales were completed again in a second phase three months after the intervention had finished.
