The movement of People in the upper Seine basin during the Roman period (1st century BCE – 5th century CE): infrastructures and written testimony.
2021
Archaeological and historical data to do with the movement of populations and goods in the Seine catchment area have not yet been overviewed for the Roman period. The Arkéaube conference offers an opportunity to present research on this subject. We can observe that, during the Roman period, the Seine valley was a major thoroughfare located downstream from the confluence of the Seine and the Yonne. Upstream, the Yonne gradually replaced the Petite Seine as a major route across the south-east of the Paris Basin.
2010
A figurative element made out of bronze was discovered in a 2008 evaluation at Fragnes (Saône-et-Loire) near to Chalon-sur-Saône. This very original element was discovered in an untypical context. It is the foot of a vessel in the form of a sphinx with a lion's paw. Even though objects with decorated feet and in particular lion's paws are well known of, the use of the sphinx iconography is rare and even unique in Gaul during this period
2011
The increase or decrease of the number of settlements is frequently used to assess the interactions between ancient societies and their environment. Beside this quantitative indicator, the pattern and the spatial extent of a settlement are crucial to estimate the " human pressure " on the environment. Within the ArchaeDyn program, several quantitative indicators have been developed to characterise the spatial and hierarchical structure of a settlements' scatter. The application of these indicators in four regions of Southern and Central Gaul shows the evolution of the spatial and hierarchical configurations of the settlement through phases of increasing and reducing rates of occupation.
Découverte d'un moulin hydraulique antique à Longvic (Côte-d'Or)
2010
The discovery of a Roman building on the banks of a ditch linked to the river Ouche and a millstone made of volcanic rock similar to those found at other Roman mill sites, indicate the existence of a Roman water mill at Longvic.
Magnetic Prospecting of Diachronic Structures (Antiquity to First World War) on the Site of the Sanctuary of Ribemont-sur-Ancre (Somme, France)
2001
International audience; The site of the sanctuary of Ribemont-sur-Ancre (Somme, France) is of major scientific interest for the knowledge of the Celtic civilization in Europe. It also presents other peculiarities: two clearly identifiable periods of occupation-the first one as early as third century BC-to the second century AD and the second one from 1914-1918. In the area disrupted through military operations, the remains of several epochs are intermingled. In order to obtain a precise knowledge of the space time organisation of each occupation, a magnetic survey was carried out. The comparison of geophysical results with the aerial photographs shot during the war allows an exact determina…
Nuevos elementos de análisis sobre 'Onoba' (Huelva)
2003
