Alternative nursery propagation for vineyards establishment

2016

Dead vines are often a problem present in many vineyards and are due to physiological or pathological causes whereby the vines need to be replaced. The aim of the trial was to create in the nursery plant material of four cultivars in order to easily replace the dead vines in the vineyards but also to anticipate the first harvest and to improve the vineyard uniformity and synchronize the vineyard management practices during the first two years of plantation. During the first year in the nursery, the effect of plant density on the percentage of success and vegetative growth was evaluated. During the second year, in the open field and only for one cultivar, the vegetative and reproductive para…

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of root nodules rhizobia of Medicago littoralis Rhode and Melilotus indicus (L.) All. growing in the Oasis …

2015

Forty rhizobial strains were isolated from root nodules of Medicago littoralis Rhode and Melilotus indicus (L.) harvested from the sandy soils of Touggourt’s oases in the Oued Righ Valley, Algerian Sahara. The isolates were studied for their cultural, biochemical and symbiotic effectiveness. All of them were fast-growing bacteria; utilized a wide range of carbon sources, produced abundant extracellular polysaccharides, tolerated high concentrations of NaCl (up to 2.5 %), grew at temperatures between 28 and 45 °C and at pH values between 4.5 and 9. The isolates were sensitive to the antibiotics kanamycin, tetracycline and rifampicin but showed resistance to neomycin and erythromycin. All the…

Evaluation of a digital radiography to estimate working length

1997

The working lengths obtained with different methods in single-rooted teeth were compared. An endodontic rule in millimeters and calipers was used as a direct method of measurement (on endodontic files). As indirect methods, measurements were taken from conventional x-rays with calipers and with a digital radiological measurement system. No statistically significant differences were obtained between the direct and indirect methods. Three vertical angulations were taken for the indirect methods (0 degree, 15 degrees, and 30 degrees). No significant differences were found between results for the two indirect methods versus the standard method except for the 30 degrees angulation, which resulte…

Increases of intracanal and root surface temperatures during the obturation of canal using the E&Q master system and the system

2010

Objectives: The purpose of our study is to assess the increases of intracanal and root surface temperatures during the obturation of canal system using the E&Q Master System and the System B. Materials and methods: A split-tooth model was built. To measure the temperature, 6 grooves for the placement of thermocouples were made in the buccal half of the model. On the mesial side, three grooves were made at 2, 4 and 6 mm from the anatomical apex and were extended to the root surface, while on the distal side three grooves were made at 2, 4 and 6 mm up to the intracanal portion. In each of these grooves was inserted a type T thermocouple (Copper-Costantana) with a diameter of 0.076 mm. 40 cana…

Pythium campanulatumsp. nov., isolated from the rhizosphere of maize, its taxonomy, ITS region of rDNA, and comparison with related species

2003

Pythium campanulatum sp. nov. was isolated from some soil samples taken in the rhizosphere of maize (Zea mays) in north-eastern India. This species is characterized by the absence of zoospores and sporangia, antheridial branches wrapping around the oogonia leaving one to two campanulate antheridial cells after fertilization, and aplerotic oospores. The ITS region of its rDNA is comprised of 922 bases. This oomycete is closely related to Pythium orthogonon, Pythium nunn and Pythium toruloides. However, it has its own characteristic features and is completely devoid of zoospores. Taxonomic description of this new species and its comparison with related oomycetes, together with the sequence of…

Pregabalin in the treatment of inferior alveolar nerve paraesthesia following overfilling of endodontic sealer

2014

A case of orofacial pain and inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) paraesthesia after extrusion of endodontic sealer within the mandibular canal treated with prednisone and pregabalin is described. A 36-year-old woman underwent root canal treatment of the mandibular second right premolar tooth. Post-operative panoramic radiograph revealed the presence of radiopaque canal sealer in the mandibular canal. Damage to IAN consecutive to extrusion of endodontic sealer was diagnosed. Non-surgical management was decided, including: 1 mg/kg/day prednisone 2 times/day, once-daily regimen, and 150 mg/day pregabalin, two doses per day, monitoring the progress with periodic follow-up visits. Six weeks after the …

Assessment of fractures in endodontically treated teeth restored with and without root canal posts using high-resolution cone beam computed tomography

2020

Abstract Background: Root fractures are a diagnostic challenge for dentists because their signs and symptoms are not present in all cases, and they are difficult to differentiate from endodontic treatment failures, the purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between the characteristics of tooth fractures and the presence of root canal posts in endodontically treated teeth using high-resolution cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: Fifty high-resolution CBCT scans of endodontically treated teeth with a diagnosis of fracture were obtained, of which 30 were from women and 20 were from men. These scans were acquired with three Veraviewepocs 3D units and one 3D Ac…

In vivo detection of vertical root fractures in endodontically treated teeth : accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography and assessment of potential …

2021

Background This study aimed: (a) to determine the diagnostic performance of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for detection of vertical root fractures (VRFs); (b) to evaluate the predictive value of diagnostic criteria regarding the definition of VRFs; and (c) to examine the robustness of the association of patient-, tooth-, and treatment-related variables with VRFs. Material and methods 130 root-filled teeth with signs/symptoms of VRFs underwent clinical and CBCT assessments. Definite diagnosis of VRF was confirmed by endodontic microsurgical (EMS) exploration. Determination of diagnostic performance of CBCT was based on standard algorithms derived from two-way contingency table analysi…
