Lactobacillus rossii sp. nov. isolated from wheat sourdough
2005
Screening of sourdough lactic acid bacteria for bacteriocin production resulted in the isolation of a Gram-positive, catalase-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile rod bacterium (strain CS1T) that could not be associated with any previously described species. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis recognized strain CS1T as a distinct member of the genus Lactobacillus. By a species-specific PCR strategy, five additional strains previously isolated from sourdoughs were found to belong to the same species as strain CS1T, as confirmed by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The closest related species were Lactobacillus durianis, Lactobacillus malefermentans and Lactobacillus suebicus, with …

Pseudocrossidium obtusulum (Lindb.) H.A. Crum & L.E. Anderson, is recorded for the first time in Italy. It has been gathered in northern coastal area of Sicily from Archaeological area of Solunto.
On the zero crossing of the three-gluon vertex
2016
We report on new results on the infrared behaviour of the three-gluon vertex in quenched Quantum Chormodynamics, obtained from large-volume lattice simulations. The main focus of our study is the appearance of the characteristic infrared feature known as 'zero crossing', the origin of which is intimately connected with the nonperturbative masslessness of the Faddeev-Popov ghost. The appearance of this effect is clearly visible in one of the two kinematic configurations analyzed, and its theoretical origin is discussed in the framework of Schwinger-Dyson equations. The effective coupling in the momentum subtraction scheme that corresponds to the three-gluon vertex is constructed, revealing t…

Statistical Properties of Double Hoyt Fading With Applications to the Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication Systems
2018
In this paper, we investigate the statistical properties of double Hoyt fading channels, where the overall received signal is determined by the product of two statistically independent but not necessarily identically distributed single Hoyt processes. Finite-range integral expressions are first derived for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades of the envelope fading process. A closed-form approximate solution is also deduced for the LCR by making use of the Laplace approximation theorem. Applying the derived PDF of the double Hoyt channel, we then provide analytical expressions for the average…
Tuning the photophysical properties of anti-B18H22: efficient intersystem crossing between excited singlet and triplet states in new 4,4'-(HS)2-anti-…
2013
The tuning of the photophysical properties of the highly fluorescent boron hydride cluster anti-B18H22 (1), by straightforward chemical substitution to produce 4,4'-(HS)2-anti-B18H20 (2), facilitates intersystem crossing from excited singlet states to a triplet manifold. This subsequently enhances O2((1)Δg) singlet oxygen production from a quantum yield of ΦΔ ∼ 0.008 in 1 to 0.59 in 2. This paper describes the synthesis and full structural characterization of the new compound 4,4'-(HS)2-anti-B18H20 (2) and uses UV-vis spectroscopy coupled with density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio computational studies to delineate and explain its photophysical properties.
The Low-Lying Excited States of 2,2′-Bithiophene: A Theoretical Analysis
2004
The low-energy region of the singlet →singlet, singlet →triplet, and triplet→triplet electronic spectra of 2,2'-bithiophene are studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and extended atomic natural orbitals (ANO) basis sets. The computed vertical, adiabatic, and emission transition energies are in agreement with the available experimental data. The two lowest singlet excited states, 1 1 B u and 2'B u , are computed to be degenerate, a novel feature of the system to be borne in mind during the rationalization of its photophysics. As regards the observed high triplet quantum yield of the molecule, it is concluded that the triplet states 2 3 A g and 2 3 B u ,…
Intersystem Crossing and Light-Induced Bistability in Iron(?) Spin-Crossover Compounds
1996
Abstract The dynamics of the high-spin→low-spin intersystem crossing process in iron(?) spin-crossover compounds are strongly influenced by cooperative effects of elastic origin which are due to the large difference in volume between high-spin and low-spin complexes. The deviation from first order kinetics is attributed to a build-up of an internal pressure as the relaxation proceeds, leading to a characteristic self-acceleration. The elastic interactions may lead to a light-induced bistability for systems which otherwise remain in the high-spin state down to cryogenic temperatures.
Corrigendum: An Unusually Small Singlet-Triplet Gap in a Quinoidal 1,6-Methano[10]annulene Resulting from Baird's 4n π-Electron Triplet Stabilization.
2016
Within the continuum of π-extended quinoidal electronic structures exist molecules that by design can support open-shell diradical structures. The prevailing molecular design criteria for such structures involve proaromatic nature that evolves aromaticity in open-shell diradical resonance structures. A new diradical species built upon a quinoidal methano[10]annulene unit is synthesized and spectroscopically evaluated. The requisite intersystem crossing in the open-shell structure is accompanied by structural reorganization from a contorted Mobius aromatic-like shape in S0 to a more planar shape in the Huckel aromatic-like T1. This stability was attributed to Baird’s Rule which dictates the …
