Acetylcholine and Molecular Components of its Synthesis and Release Machinery in the Urothelium
2007
Abstract Objectives Previous studies provided indirect evidence for urothelial synthesis and release of acetylcholine (ACh). We aimed to determine directly the ACh content in the urothelium and to characterize the molecular components of its synthesis and release machinery. Methods The study was performed on mouse bladder and abraded urothelium, and human mucosal bladder biopsies. ACh content was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical. Reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry served to investigate expression of ACh-synthesizing enzymes—choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and carnitine acetyltransferase (CarAT)—vesicular ACh t…

‘Una myga ymatge en paper, de ploma, de mà de Johannes‘. La fugitiva sombra de Van Eyck en la Corona de Aragón a mediados del si…
2016
This paper analyses the mention of a quill drawing attributed to Van Eyck in a Valencian postmortem inventory, dated 1452. The properties belonged to Andreu Garcia, a priest well known in the historical record because of his connections with the most notable artists working in Valencia during the first half of the 15 th century. This reference compels a new examination of the ever more improbable presence of Van Eyck in Aragonese territories. It also offers a new insight into the early imprint of his paintings in these lands, given that the first owner of the drawing was the painter Berenguer Mateu (Jaume Mateu’s brother, likewise a prominent Valencian painter).
Chirotheria and Other Ichnotaxa of the European Triassic
2004
At the end of the Permian, numerous amphibians and therapsids vanished, creating many empty ecological niches, which were occupied by new creatures. This event brought new trends in animal locomotion thanks to modifications of the skeleton limbs. The newcomers were faster and more dangerous for other families. The prominent ichnogenera were Synaptichnium, Chirotherium, Brachychirotherium, Isochirotherium, and Sphingopus. Their trackmakers were Thecodonts, reptiles having the above-mentioned evolutive characteristics. Dinosaurs, which appeared at the end of the Triassic period, were likely their descendants, which raises the question of when and where the dinosaurs originated. The comparison…
Dinosauroid footprints of French Upper Triassic. Discrimination, interpretation and comparison
2005
Abstract Dinosauroid tracks are common in France. They are mainly tridactyl II–IV feet tracks, sometimes with those of hands. A lot of these latter Coelurosaurichnus grancieri Courel & Demathieu, 2000 was discovered by MG near the village of Payzac (Ardèche department) in beds belonging to the “Ensemble gréso-dolomitique gris” (= EGDG) (fig. 1. 2). They are dated Carnian from palynological data [Fauconnier et al., 1996]. C. grancieri are tracks of feet and hands respectively 10 cm and 2.5 cm long (fig. 1. 3–5, 7–21; tabl. I-1, tabl. II). From the trackways characters, it was inferred that trackmakers were long legged, bipedal-quadrupedal reptiles, 1–2 m long. New discoveries made by M…
Paper-TiO2 composite: An effective photocatalyst for 2-propanol degradation in gas phase
2018
Two simple routes for the synthesis of a paper-TiO2 composite were tuned up and the efficiency of the resulting paper-TiO2 photocatalyst was investigated in the 2-propanol oxidation in gas phase. The first route involved the in-situ generation over the sheet of paper of a TiO2 layer starting from a solution of Ti (OBu)4 in tert-butanoliacetic acid, followed by hydrothermal treatment at 120 degrees C for 3 h. The sample was labelled as paper-TiO2 (H). The second approach was based on the adsorption on the paper of a ready-made suspension of titania nanoparticles (TiO2 sol), generated in autoclave at 140 degrees C and stable in acid medium at pH <3. The sample was labelled as paper-TiO2 (S). …
Nematode Parasites of the European Pilchard, Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792): A Genuine Human Hazard?
2022
The European pilchard is one of the most frequently consumed fish species in Mediterranean countries, especially in Italy and Spain, and has been reported as the cause of at least eight human anisakidosis cases in Spain. With the aim to shed light on the potential human parasitosis risk posed by nematode larvae belonging to families Anisakidae or Raphidascarididae, a total of 350 sardines captured in the Atlantic Ocean (175 specimens) and the Mediterranean Sea (175 specimens), acquired in various Spanish nationwide supermarket chains, were helminthologically analyzed. The statistical analysis of some helminth parameters revealed a higher presence of nematodes belonging to the genus Hysterot…
Ultrasound-Guided Intramural Inoculation of Orthotopic Bladder Cancer Xenografts: A Novel High-Precision Approach
2013
Orthotopic bladder cancer xenografts are essential for testing novel therapies and molecular manipulations of cell lines in vivo. Current xenografts rely on tumor cell inoculation by intravesical instillation or direct injection into the bladder wall. Instillation is limited by the lack of cell lines that are tumorigenic when delivered in this manner. The invasive model inflicts morbidity on the mice by the need for laparotomy and mobilization of the bladder. Furthermore this procedure is complex and time-consuming. Three bladder cancer cell lines (UM-UC1, UM-UC3, UM-UC13) were inoculated into 50 athymic nude mice by percutaneous injection under ultrasound guidance. PBS was first injected b…
Confocal laser endomicroscopy for the diagnosis of urothelial bladder neoplasia: a technology of the future?
2010
Study Type – Diagnostic (exploratory cohort) Level of Evidence 2b What’s known on the subject? and What does the study add? Bladder cancer is initially diagnosed by white light cystoscopy followed by histopathological evaluation after transurethral resection of tissue suspicious for cancer. Difficulties may occur especially in the assessment of flat lesions or in discrimination between CIS and inflammatory disease. Confocal endomicroscopy during diagnostic colonoscopy has been a valuable tool for in vivo microscopic visualization and detection of colonic neoplasias and has contributed to optimized detection rates of up to 99%. We evaluated resected bladder urothelium of 18 patients by confo…
