For a long time, our concepts of regulation of urinary bladder function in health and disease as well as of the target structures of therapeutics have focused on detrusor smooth muscle cells. Urothelial carcinoma in a pyelocaliceal cyst Renal complex cysts are lesions whose nature can be either benign or malignant. Depending on the presence of septa, solid components, enhancement or calcifications, they are distinguished according to the Bosniak classi- fication based on CT findings, as well as MRI and ETG. We report a rare case of urothelial carcinoma, originating over a pyelocalyceal cyst in a 50-year-old man, and classified as Bosniak IIF by CT and MRI investigations.

Chemical Composition and Possible in Vitro Phytotoxic Activity of Helichrsyum italicum (Roth) Don ssp. italicum

The chemical composition of the essential oil of Helichrysum italicum (Roth) Don ssp. italicum, collected in the National Park of Cilento and Diano Valley, Southern Italy, was studied by means of GC and GC/MS. Forty four compounds of 45 constituents were identified in the oil, mainly oxygenated sesquiterpenes. The essential oil was evaluated for its potential in vitro phytotoxic activity against germination and early radicle elongation of radish and garden cress. The radicle elongation of radish was significantly inhibited at the highest doses tested, while germination of both seeds was not affected.

The urothelium plays a crucial role in integrating urinary bladder sensory outputs, responding to mechanical stress and chemical stimulation by producing several diffusible mediators, including ATP and, possibly, neurotrophin nerve growth factor (NGF). Such urothelial mediators activate underlying afferents and thus may contribute to normal bladder sensation and possibly to the development of bladder overactivity. Bei Mausen wurde nach Dicumarol per os in Dosen von 0,05–1 mg/g zirka 1–25 Std nach der Dicumarol-Gabe die Prothrombinzeit bestimmt und kurz danach die Odembildung der Hinterbeine bei der Durchstromung mit Tyrodelosung untersucht. In den meisten Fallen war innerhalb der ersten 7 Std die Prothrombinzeit unverandert, dagegen war eine erhohte Kapillarpermeabilitat eingetreten. Von 11 Std aufwarts war die Prothrombinzeit fast immer erhoht, wahrend die Gefaspermeabilitat in der Mehrzahl der Falle nicht mehr erhoht war. The influence of several phosphodiesterase-blocking agents on some mechanical and metabolic parameters of isolated perfused guinea pig hearts was studied in order to reinvestigate the repeatedly demonstrated close correlation between these functions. 1. In concentrations which caused 50% inhibition of the phosphodiesterase, theophyllin (1.8×10−4M), ethacrynic acid (4×10−4M) and papaverine (1×10−5M) produced positive inotropic effects by increasing the rate of contraction of the heart muscle (dp/dt).
