Interacting Rubidium and Caesium Atoms

Binary mixtures of ultracold atoms are of great interest in the research field of quantum optics and are studied by several groups aiming at different applications. This paper works with rubidium and caesium, which are simultaneously stored in a magnetic trap. Species-selective microwave cooling is used on the rubidium groundstate hyperfine transition. Caesium is sympathetically cooled via elastic collisions with rubidium. When cooling down the mixture to temperatures below 1 muK, below 4 muK we observe strong losses of caesium. Analysing the dynamics of sympathetic cooling, lower limit for the modulus of the rubidium-caesium triplet s-wave scattering length is estimated.
Novel lithocholaphanes: Syntheses, NMR, MS, and molecular modeling studies

Abstract Novel head-to-head lithocholaphanes 6 and 11 have been synthesized via precursors 1 – 5 and 7 – 10 with overall good yields, and characterized by 1 H, 13 C, and 15 N NMR spectroscopy, ESI-TOF mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, and molecular modeling. In addition, the binding abilities of 6 and 11 towards alkali metal cations have been investigated via competitive complexation studies using equimolar mixtures of Li + , Na + , K + , and Rb + -cations, and cholaphanes 6 and 11 . K0.88Rb0.12TiOPO4 and K0.465Rb0.535TiOPO4 solid solutions of the potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO4, space group Pna21) family, are described at 293, 473, 673, 873 and at 973 K. Development of a saturated absorption spectroscopy setup at IGISOL for characterisation of Fabry-Pérot interferometers

A saturated absorption spectroscopy setup was developed and optimised for the characterisation of a home-built and a commercial Fabry-Pérot interferometer (FPI). The free spectral range of these FPIs has been determined with reliable statistical and systematic errors. These FPIs will be used for accurate wavelength determination of broad- and narrowband pulsed Ti:sapphire lasers used in resonance ionisation spectroscopy experiments. peerReviewed
Implementation of a double-scanning technique for studies of the Hanle effect in rubidium vapor

We have studied the resonance fluorescence of a room-temperature rubidium vapor exited to the atomic 5P3/2 state (D2 line) by powerful single-frequency cw laser radiation (1.25 W/cm^2) in the presence of a magnetic field. In these studies, the slow, linear scanning of the laser frequency across the hyperfine transitions of the D2 line is combined with a fast linear scanning of the applied magnetic field, which allows us to record frequency-dependent Hanle resonances from all the groups of hyperfine transitions including V- and Lambda - type systems. Line shape measurements of rubidium 5S-7S two-photon transition

We report the use of a digital lock to measure the line profile and center frequency of rubidium 5S-7S two-photon transitions with a cw laser referenced to an optical frequency comb. The narrow, two-photon transition, 5S-7S (760 nm), insensitive to first-order in a magnetic field, is a promising candidate for frequency reference.

Crystallization studies of C-methyl pyrogallarene with potassium, rubidium and caesium bromides or chlorides resulted in a hydrogen bonded molecular cage in which the alkali metal cations are eta6 coordinated to aromatic rings via strong cation-pi interactions.

Essential features of optical processes in neon-buffered submicron-thin Rb vapor cell

A new submicron thin cell (STC) filled with Rb and neon gas is developed and comparison of resonant absorption with STC containing pure Rb is provided. The effect of collapse and revival of Dicke-type narrowing is still observable for the thickness L = lambda /2 and L = lambda , where lambda is a resonant laser wavelength 794 nm (D(1) line). For an ordinary Rb cm-size cell with addition of buffer gas, the velocity selective optical pumping/saturation (VSOP) resonances in saturated absorption spectra are fully suppressed if neon pressure0.5 Torr.
