Categorization in Discourse and Grammar

2016

This collection of papers addresses new trends in Cognitive Linguistics. Three parts of the book focus on Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Integration Network Analysis. Both the theoretical contributions and the empirical case studies stress the importance of contextual factors in the meaning making processes. They employ qualitative methods to analyze the use of metaphor in political discourse and in the conceptualization of emotions. The data sets include multimodal data, sign languages and co-speech gestures. The fourth part of the book contains two corpus-based studies. The fifth part concentrates on the grammatical categories of passive voice and aspect. One contribution discusses the pr…

Heavy quarkonium: progress, puzzles, and opportunities

2011

A golden age for heavy quarkonium physics dawned a decade ago, initiated by the confluence of exciting advances in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and an explosion of related experimental activity. The early years of this period were chronicled in the Quarkonium Working Group (QWG) CERN Yellow Report (YR) in 2004, which presented a comprehensive review of the status of the field at that time and provided specific recommendations for further progress. However, the broad spectrum of subsequent breakthroughs, surprises, and continuing puzzles could only be partially anticipated. Since the release of the YR, the BESII program concluded only to give birth to BESIII; the $B$-factories and CLEO-c flo…

QCD sum rule determination of the charm-quark mass

2011

QCD sum rules involving mixed inverse moment integration kernels are used in order to determine the running charm-quark mass in the $\bar{MS}$ scheme. Both the high and the low energy expansion of the vector current correlator are involved in this determination. The optimal integration kernel turns out to be of the form $p(s) = 1 - (s_0/s)^2$, where $s_0$ is the onset of perturbative QCD. This kernel enhances the contribution of the well known narrow resonances, and reduces the impact of the data in the range $s \simeq 20 - 25 GeV^2$. This feature leads to a substantial reduction in the sensitivity of the results to changes in $s_0$, as well as to a much reduced impact of the experimental u…

Quark–hadron duality: Pinched kernel approach

2016

Hadronic spectral functions measured by the ALEPH collaboration in the vector and axial-vector channels are used to study potential quark-hadron duality violations (DV). This is done entirely in the framework of pinched kernel finite energy sum rules (FESR), i.e. in a model independent fashion. The kinematical range of the ALEPH data is effectively extended up to $s = 10\; {\mbox{GeV}^2}$ by using an appropriate kernel, and assuming that in this region the spectral functions are given by perturbative QCD. Support for this assumption is obtained by using $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data in the vector channel. Results in both channels show a good saturation of the pinched FESR, without further nee…

Esclusioni etniche nei regolamenti cultuali greci: la norma di Paros (IG XII 5, 225)

2019

This study aims to examine a well-known inscription (IG XII.5, 225) dated to the mid-fifth century BC and found in Paroikia, near the acropolis of the ancient polis of Paros. It shows a typical formula of access limitation to local cults: according to most scholars, the cult in question is to be identified with the worship of Kore Astos (the Citizen), who is mentioned in the second line. The Dorians are excluded from this cult, as is shown by the expression (xenoi Dorie) appearing at the beginning of the text in a very relevant position. On the basis of a close comparison between this text and other epigraphs as well as literary documents containing proscriptions which prevent foreigners fr…

Analysis and design of sequencing rules for car sequencing

2009

Abstract This paper presents novel approaches for generating sequencing rules for the car sequencing (CS) problem in cases of two and multiple processing times per station. The CS problem decides on the succession of different car models launched down a mixed-model assembly line. It aims to avoid work overloads at the stations of the line by applying so-called sequencing rules, which restrict the maximum occurrence of labor-intensive options in a subsequence of a certain length. Thus to successfully avoid work overloads, suitable sequencing rules are essential. The paper shows that the only existing rule generation approach leads to sequencing rules which misclassify feasible sequences. We …

The Role of Fraudulent Transfer Rules in Corporate Insolvency

2008

"The article is based on a lecture given by the author in Paris on the 12. October 2007 in the context of a Symposium devoted to corporate insolvency law. It deals with the role of fraudulent transfer rules in company law. The research is carried out on the field of comparative and European law. It therefore starts from a stipulative definition of [UTF-8?]“fraudulent transfer [UTF-8?]rules†which excludes preferences (even if they belong to the matter, in some legal systems) but includes the regulations aimed at subordinating [UTF-8?]shareholders’ loans. The paper demonstrates that the different [UTF-8?]“fraudulent transfer [UTF-8?]rules†adopted by principal EU Member States conver…

Translating the Idea of the eGovernment One-Stop-Shop in Indonesia

2013

Article from the Book:Information and Communication Technology, Springer 2013. Also available on SpringerLink:http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-36818-9_1 This study aims to understand how the idea of an eGovernment one- stop-shop (OSS) has been translated into a new setting. Since the beginning of 2000, this idea has been implemented in a variety of ways by Indonesian local governments. Using an interpretive case study in the city of Yogyakarta, the study revealed that the specificity of each setting influences the translation process of the idea of OSS during its institutionalization. It also identified a set of editing rules used during the translation process. These include the editing…

The aim of this paper is to analyze the degree of compliance on the correct academic writing prefixed words (contained in the new spelling) that pe…
