Abstract Reed canary grass is used in several heat and power plants in Finland and it is estimated that about 70–80 plants could utilise reed canary grass as a co-firing fuel. Long-distance transport of reed canary grass forms a significant share of the production and delivery costs. Reed canary grass can be transported in bales or as loose matter. The density of the matter and shape of the bales influence the load-size and the cost. At present it is impossible to obtain the full load-bearing capacity of a lorry even with bales, and with light bulk matter the obtainable load is less than one-third of the load-bearing capacity of a lorry. The solution of many practical water problems is strictly connected to the availability of reliable and widespread information about runoff. The estimation of mean annual runoff and its interannual variability for any basin over a wide region, even if ungauged, would be fundamental for both water resources assessment and planning and for water quality analysis. Spatial analysis techniques for mapping the annual surface runoff in Sicily under the Budyko’s framework

This work shows a new approach, based on the Budyko framework, for mapping the mean annual surface runoff and deriving the probability distribution of the annual runoff in arid and semi-arid watersheds. We analytically provide the annual runoff distribution as the derived distribution of annual rainfall and potential evapotranspiration. The simulated long-term annual runoff and its distribution have been compared with historical records at several gauged stations, obtaining satisfactory matching.
Asynchronous Runtime Verification of Business Processes

The authors propose a runtime verification mechanism for business processes. This mechanism allows verifying the correctness of business process execution and it runs in parallel with the base processes affecting them insignificantly. The authors have identified the case where the use of business process runtime verification is helpful and applicable. The verification mechanism monitors the business process execution and verifies compliance with the base process description. The verification mechanism prototype was developed and tested in real business processes, as well as limits of runtime verification overhead were evaluated.
