Helical Shift Mechanics of Rubber V-Belt Variators

2011

A very common configuration of V-belt variators for motorcycles considers the correction of the belt tensioning depending on the resistant torque by means of suitable helical-shaped tracks allowing the driven half-pulleys to close/open. The theoretical model for belt-pulley coupling is rather complex for this configuration, where one half-pulley may run in advance and the other one behind with respect to the belt, and requires the repeated numerical solution of a strongly nonlinear differential system by a sort of shooting technique, until all the operating conditions are fulfilled (angular contact extent, torque, and axial force). After solving the full equations, the present study develop…

Length-Weight Relationships of 52 Species from the South of Sicily (Central Mediterranean Sea)

2022

The Length-Weight relationships (LWRs) of 52 species (14 never reported before) of fishes, crustaceans and cephalopods living on the shelf and upper slope off Southern Sicily are provided. Data were collected in the framework of the International bottom trawl survey in the Mediterranean (MEDITS) in the South of Sicily (Central Mediterranean), covering a time frame ranging from 2012 to 2019. Linear regressions were significant for all species (p < 0.05) with R2 values ranging from 0.86 to 0.99. The intercept (a) of LWRs ranged from 0.0003 to 0.4677, while the slope (b) ranged from 2.1281 to 3.306. The Welch t-test, used to evaluate differences between the obtained LWRs with those reported…

A general diastereoselective synthesis of highly functionalized ferrocenyl ambiphiles enabled on a large scale by electrochemical purification

2017

International audience; A general synthesis of highly functionalized ferrocenes, which include (P,B)- and (N,B)-ambiphiles, has been developed at a multigram scale. Diastereoselective stepwise modification of di-tert-butylated ferrocenes included the unprecedented separation of electroactive species. Bulky alkyl groups on ferrocenes ensure planar chirality of ambiphiles and enforce closer proximity of antagonist Lewis functions.

Haemolymphatic parameters in two aquaculture crustacean species Cherax destructor (Clark, 1836) and Cherax quadricarinatus (von Martens, 1868)

2021

The growing demand for animal proteins of aquatic origin such as fish, molluscs and crustaceans have prompted some European and Italian companies to focus their attention on some species of freshwater crustaceans such as Cherax destructor and Cherax quadricarinatus. They are among the largest freshwater decapods, matures early, females can lay over a thousand eggs in a single brood and has a broad environmental tolerance. All these characteristics make it highly appreciated species for aquaculture and few years ago their breeding has spread to Europe and recently also in Italy (Sicily). Although some commercial yabby farms have been studied these species from different points of view (dieta…

Six années de suivi du flux d'érosion éolienne sur un sol sableux cultivé au Sahel : Impacts des résidus de culture et de l'encroûtement

2013

In the Sahel, wind erosion occurs particularly in cultivated fields. This work was leaded at Banizoumbou in Niger where wind erosion fluxes have been measured for six years. The aims of this study was i) to monitor crop residues cover on traditional field and to quantify its influence on wind erosion ii) to characterize the impacts of soils crusting on erosion flux, iii) to characterize the impact of herbaceous strips on wind flux. Results showed that crop residues efficiently prevent cultivated fields from wind erosion during the dry season (January to April) and considerably reduce erosion fluxes at the beginning of the rainy season (May to July). Under a minimal crop residues cover rate …

ChemInform Abstract: Phosphido- and Amidozirconocene Cation-Based Frustrated Lewis Pair Chemistry.

2016

Methyl abstraction from neutral [Cp2ZrMe(ERR′)] complexes 1 (E = N, P; R, R′ = alkyl, aryl) with either B(C6F5)3 or [Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] results in the formation of [Cp2Zr(ERR′)][X] complexes 2 (X– = MeB(C6F5)3–, B(C6F5)4–). The X-ray structure of amido complexes [Cp2Zr(NPh2)][MeB(C6F5)3] (2d) and [Cp2Zr(NtBuAr)][B(C6F5)4] (2e′, Ar = 3,5-C6H3(CH3)2) is reported, showing a sterically dependent Zr/N−π interaction. Complexes 2 catalyze the hydrogenation of electron-rich olefins and alkynes under mild conditions (room temperature, 1.5 bar H2). Complex 2e binds CO2, giving [Cp2Zr(CO2)(NtBuAr)]2[MeB(C6F5)3]2 (3e). Amido complex 2d reacts with benzaldehyde yielding [Cp2Zr(OCH2Ph)((OC)PhNPh2)][MeB(C6F5…

Monte Carlo simulation of the glass transition in polymeric systems: Recent developments

1995

Abstract The bond fluctuation model on square and s.c. lattices is used as a coarse-grained model for flexible polymers in dense melts. Using an energy that favours long bonds, a conflict is created between the tendency of the bonds to stretch at low temperatures and packing constraints. This simple concept of ‘geometric frustration’ leads to glass transition. Both static and dynamic properties of this model are investigated by Monte Carlo simulations, paying attention to effects found by varying the cooling rate and the chain length N of the polymers. In two and three spatial dimensions an effective (cooling-rate dependent) glass transition temperature T g can be defined, where the system …

Direct observation of a borane-silane complex involved in frustrated Lewis-pair-mediated hydrosilylations.

2014

Perfluorarylborane Lewis acids catalyse the addition of silicon-hydrogen bonds across C=C, C=N and C=O double bonds. This 'metal-free' hydrosilylation has been proposed to occur via borane activation of the silane Si-H bond, rather than through classical Lewis acid/base adducts with the substrate. However, the key borane/silane adduct had not been observed experimentally. Here it is shown that the strongly Lewis acidic, antiaromatic 1,2,3-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrafluoro-1-boraindene forms an observable, isolable adduct with triethylsilane. The equilibrium for adduct formation was studied quantitatively through variable-temperature NMR spectroscopic investigations. The interactio…
