Learning Automata-based Misinformation Mitigation via Hawkes Processes
2021
AbstractMitigating misinformation on social media is an unresolved challenge, particularly because of the complexity of information dissemination. To this end, Multivariate Hawkes Processes (MHP) have become a fundamental tool because they model social network dynamics, which facilitates execution and evaluation of mitigation policies. In this paper, we propose a novel light-weight intervention-based misinformation mitigation framework using decentralized Learning Automata (LA) to control the MHP. Each automaton is associated with a single user and learns to what degree that user should be involved in the mitigation strategy by interacting with a corresponding MHP, and performing a joint ra…
Parallelizing Epistasis Detection in GWAS on FPGA and GPU-Accelerated Computing Systems
2015
This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in IEEE - ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. The final authenticated version is available online at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/TCBB.2015.2389958 [Abstract] High-throughput genotyping technologies (such as SNP-arrays) allow the rapid collection of up to a few million genetic markers of an individual. Detecting epistasis (based on 2-SNP interactions) in Genome-Wide Association Studies is an important but time consuming operation since statistical computations have to be performed for each pair of measured markers. Computational methods to detect epistasis therefore suffer from prohibitively lon…
Ownership protection of plenoptic images by robust and reversible watermarking
2018
Abstract Plenoptic images are highly demanded for 3D representation of broad scenes. Contrary to the images captured by conventional cameras, plenoptic images carry a considerable amount of angular information, which is very appealing for 3D reconstruction and display of the scene. Plenoptic images are gaining increasing importance in areas like medical imaging, manufacturing control, metrology, or even entertainment business. Thus, the adaptation and refinement of watermarking techniques to plenoptic images is a matter of raising interest. In this paper a new method for plenoptic image watermarking is proposed. A secret key is used to specify the location of logo insertion. Employing discr…
Area-Based Depth Estimation for Monochromatic Feature-Sparse Orthographic Capture
2018
With the rapid development of light field technology, depth estimation has been highlighted as one of the critical problems in the field, and a number of approaches have been proposed to extract the depth of the scene. However, depth estimation by stereo matching becomes difficult and unreliable when the captured images lack both color and feature information. In this paper, we propose a scheme that extracts robust depth from monochromatic, feature-sparse scenes recorded in orthographic sub-aperture images. Unlike approaches which rely on the rich color and texture information across the sub-aperture views, our approach is based on depth from focus techniques. First, we superimpose shifted …
Towards an Efficient Implementation of an Accurate SPH Method
2020
A modified version of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method is considered in order to overcome the loss of accuracy of the standard formulation. The summation of Gaussian kernel functions is employed, using the Improved Fast Gauss Transform (IFGT) to reduce the computational cost, while tuning the desired accuracy in the SPH method. This technique, coupled with an algorithmic design for exploiting the performance of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), makes the method promising, as shown by numerical experiments.
Deep Learning-Based Methods for Prostate Segmentation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
2021
Magnetic Resonance Imaging-based prostate segmentation is an essential task for adaptive radiotherapy and for radiomics studies whose purpose is to identify associations between imaging features and patient outcomes. Because manual delineation is a time-consuming task, we present three deep-learning (DL) approaches, namely UNet, efficient neural network (ENet), and efficient residual factorized convNet (ERFNet), whose aim is to tackle the fully-automated, real-time, and 3D delineation process of the prostate gland on T2-weighted MRI. While UNet is used in many biomedical image delineation applications, ENet and ERFNet are mainly applied in self-driving cars to compensate for limited hardwar…
Total Variation Regularization in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis
2013
We developed an iterative algebraic algorithm for the reconstruction of 3D volumes from limited-angle breast projection images. Algebraic reconstruction is accelerated using the graphics processing unit. We varied a total variation (TV)-norm parameter in order to verify the influence of TV regularization on the representation of small structures in the reconstructions. The Barzilai-Borwein algorithm is used to solve the inverse reconstruction problem. The quality of our reconstructions was evaluated with the Quart Mam/Digi Phantom, which features so-called Landolt ring structures to verify perceptibility limits. The evaluation of the reconstructions was done with an automatic LR detection a…
GPU-accelerated integral imaging and full-parallax 3D display using stereo-plenoptic camera system
2019
Abstract In this paper, we propose a novel approach to produce integral images ready to be displayed onto an integral-imaging monitor. Our main contribution is the use of commercial plenoptic camera, which is arranged in a stereo configuration. Our proposed set-up is able to record the radiance, spatial and angular, information simultaneously in each different stereo position. We illustrate our contribution by composing the point cloud from a pair of captured plenoptic images, and generate an integral image from the properly registered 3D information. We have exploited the graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration in order to enhance the integral-image computation speed and efficiency. We…
New Method of Microimages Generation for 3D Display
2018
In this paper, we propose a new method for the generation of microimages, which processes real 3D scenes captured with any method that permits the extraction of its depth information. The depth map of the scene, together with its color information, is used to create a point cloud. A set of elemental images of this point cloud is captured synthetically and from it the microimages are computed. The main feature of this method is that the reference plane of displayed images can be set at will, while the empty pixels are avoided. Another advantage of the method is that the center point of displayed images and also their scale and field of view can be set. To show the final results, a 3D InI dis…
Generation of User Interfaces from Business Process Model Notation (BPMN)
2019
Business Process Model Notation focuses on functional processes; so, the design of the interface generally depends on the subjective experience of the analyst. This thesis proposes a new method to generate interfaces from BPMN models. The idea is to identify rules from BPMN to interfaces in existing real projects. We have analyzed 7 Bizagi projects to generalize a list of rules. It has been done considering five BPMN patterns. Apart from BPMN primitives, there are rules that depend on elements of Class Diagrams to know how to generate the interfaces. When the rules have several alternatives to generate the interfaces, we need an unambiguous semantics to specify which alternative we are goin…
