Los ‘disparates espaciales’ como mecanismos de la comicidad en la comedia burlesca del Siglo de Oro.

Il lavoro analizza la dimensione dello ‘spazio drammatico’ nel genere della commedia burlesca del Siglo de Oro, fornendo numerosi esempi di quelli che vengono qui denominati ‘disparates espaciales’: non si tratta di costruzioni complesse, ma di piccoli ed incoerenti frammenti che arrivano a mescolare riferimenti a luoghi reali e conosciuti allo spettatore dell’epoca e allusioni a luoghi lontani, esotici o inesistenti. In questo modo, i ‘disparates espaciales’ contribuiscono alla ‘provocación de la risa’ e, insieme agli altri elementi caratteristici della commedia burlesca, collaborano alla costruzione del ‘mundo al revés’ tipico del genere.

Efficient remote sensing image classification with Gaussian processes and Fourier features

This paper presents an efficient methodology for approximating kernel functions in Gaussian process classification (GPC). Two models are introduced. We first include the standard random Fourier features (RFF) approximation into GPC, which largely improves the computational efficiency and permits large scale remote sensing data classification. In addition, we develop a novel approach which avoids randomly sampling a number of Fourier frequencies, and alternatively learns the optimal ones using a variational Bayes approach. The performance of the proposed methods is illustrated in complex problems of cloud detection from multispectral imagery.

17 pages; International audience; The Iberian Basin or its present-day expression, the Iberian Ranges, was refilled with red bed sediments of alluvial origin during the late Olenekian–Anisian period represented by the Cañizar (Olenekian–Anisian) and Eslida (Anisian) Formations, both commonly known as Buntsandstein facies. In the late part of the Anisian, the Tethys Sea reached the eastern side of the Iberian microplate, represented by the shallow marine facies of the Landete and Cañete Formations, also called Muschelkalk facies. Scientists have warned decision-makers about the severe consequences of the global environmental crisis since the 1970s. Yet ecological degradation continues and little has been done to address climate change. We investigated early-career conservation researchers' (ECR) perspectives on, and prioritization of, actions furthering sustainability. We conducted a survey (n = 67) and an interactive workshop (n = 35) for ECR attendees of the 5th European Congress of Conservation Biology (2018). Larger cell or colony size in winter, smaller in summer – a pattern shared by many species of Lake Kinneret phytoplankton

We examined an 8.5-year record (2004-2012) of cell size data for phytoplankton species from Lake Kinneret, Israel, sampled weekly or at 2-week intervals and determined microscopically by the same person. Many of the species abundant enough to be counted year-round showed a typical seasonal cell size pattern that repeated annually: cell diameter was maximal in winter and minimal in summer. This pattern was shared by species from different taxonomic groups including cyanobacteria, chlorophyta, and dinoflagellates. Similarly, in colonial species of diatoms, chlorophyta, and cyanobacteria the number of cells per colony was larger in winter and smaller in summer. We postulated that the seasonal …
