Comparison of clinical and environmental samples of Legionella pneumophila at the nucleotide sequence level

2009

Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 is the most common etiological agent of legionellosis. We have used clinical and environmental isolates from different sources to compare their genetic variability. We have obtained the nucleotide sequence for six protein-coding loci, included in the SBT scheme for L. pneumophila, and three intergenic regions from 127 samples, 47 of environmental origin and 80 from clinical samples. Levels of genetic variability were found to be higher in the environmental than in the clinical samples, but these did not represent a mere subset of the former. Not a single case of full identity between clinical and environmental isolates was found, which raises the possibili…

Impact of hydrothermal alteration processes on element mobility and potential environmental implications at the Sousaki solfataric field (Corinthia -…

2020

Abstract Samples of efflorescences and encrustations of hydrothermal origin were collected at Sousaki (Greece) and analysed for their mineralogical (XRD) and chemical composition. Solutions obtained both from mineralization with HNO3 and from leaching with deionised water were analysed for major (ICP-OES), minor and trace metals (ICP-MS) and sulfate contents (IC). Results evidence the dependence of the chemical and mineralogical composition on micro-environmental conditions i.e. humidity, oxygen-rich or -poor environment, exposed or sheltered from meteoric agents. In fact, the presence of highly soluble sulfate minerals with elevated contents of many metals (e.g. Mg, Al, Fe, Mn, Cr, Ni, etc…

Clinician-related factors behind the decision to extract an asymptomatic lower third molar. A cross-sectional study based on Spanish and Portuguese d…

2017

Background: Scientific literature estimates that around 18 to 40 % of asymptomatic third molars are extracted. The aims of the present study were to determine the indications for extraction of asymptomatic lower third molars in a sample of Spanish and Portuguese dentists, and to relate these indications to the clinicians’ training and professional experience. Material and Methods: A survey consisting of 15 cases of asymptomatic lower third molars was emailed to Portuguese and Spanish dentists. The clinicians were asked to assess the level of difficulty of the extractions and to make a reasoned recommendation based on the panoramic radiographs, gender and age of the patients. Results: 381 cl…

Englis…

Vaccination with WT1 and PR3 Derived Peptides in Patients with AML/MDS and MUC1 Peptides in Patients with Multiple Myeloma - Preliminary Results.

2006

Abstract Background: It has been demonstrated that the Wilms Tumor gene (WT1) is highly expressed in various types of leukaemia. WT1 expression level reflects the extent of minimal residual disease and significantly increases at relapse. Proteinase 3 (Pr3) is an aberrantly expressed myeloid leukaemia protein and T cells with specificity for both, Wt1 and Pr3 derived antigens, have been generated in vitro from healthy individuals and cancer patients and lysed myeloid leukaemic blasts. MUC1(CD227) is presented on a considerable amount of multiple myeloma cell lines and plasmocytoma cells. MUC1-derived HLA-class I/II epitopes represent universal tumor antigens, which are also expressed by mali…

Análisis de las necesidades de la formación docente para contextos pluriculturales

2012

In order that an intercultural programming turns out to be a feasible debit to possess educational equipment adequately formed, that could answer to the elements understood in the educational legislation. For this positive development, it becomes necessary that the teacher possesses the pedagogic necessary abilities and shows positive attitudes that favor the integration of the culturally minority pupil. It has split of three basic elements in order that the teachers could develop an intercultural educational competition and, from them, one has proposed an educational specific and different formation for the familiar area of the learner, indispensable in the process of attainment of the int…

La dote, il ius singulare e il ‘sistema didattico’ di Gaio

2016

This paper discusses the idea that the gap regarding the dowry in Gaius’ Institutes is due to the fact that Gaius intentionally did not deal with this subject because he considered it as 'ius singulare' and that this omission was filled in by a 'liber singularis' outside the Institutes. The existence of a "didactic system" made up of the Gaius’ Institutes and four 'libri singulares' for the classical age of Roman Law is also disputed.

Bedside surgery in the newborn infants: Survey of the Italian society of pediatric surgery

2020

Abstract Introduction This is the report of the first official survey from the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery (ISPS) to appraise the distribution and organization of bedside surgery in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Italy. Methods A questionnaire requesting general data, staff data and workload data of the centers was developed and sent by means of an online cloud-based software instrument to all Italian pediatric surgery Units. Results The survey was answered by 34 (65%) out of 52 centers. NICU bedside surgery is reported in 81.8% of the pediatric surgery centers. A lower prevalence of bedside surgical practice in the NICU was reported for Southern Italy and the islands …

Progress and controversies in modern treatment of Wilms' tumors.

1995

During the past 25 years the treatment of Wilms' tumors has been refined owing to a series of thoroughly performed clinical studies. The overall prognosis is currently 80% (long-term cures), but different therapeutic issues are still discussed controversially, especially the question of preoperative treatment. A number of different drugs have proved effective in the treatment of Wilms' tumors. It remains to be determined as to which drug combinations are the most effective for which histologic subtype and which stage of disease. It seems that these questions can be answered only if further studies consequently implicate analyses of early and long-term toxicities. The same is true for analys…
