Enantioselective zinc-mediated conjugate alkynylation of saccharin-derived 1-aza-butadienes
2020
The enantioselective 1,4-alkynylation of conjugated imines derived from saccharin with aryl- and alkyl-substituted terminal alkynes has been achieved. The reaction mediated by diethylzinc in the presence of a catalytic amount of a bis(hydroxy)malonamide chiral ligand provides the corresponding imines bearing a propargylic stereocenter with moderate yields and fair to excellent enantioselectivities.

Molecular composition and chemotaxonomic aspects of Eocene amber from the Ameki Formation, Nigeria
2012
The molecular composition of fossil resin from the Eocene Ameki Formation, southern Nigeria has been analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and thermochemolysis gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to determine the structural class and botanical source of the resin. The pyrolysis products were dominated by bicyclic products derived from regular labdatriene structure and lacked succinic acid indicating Class Ib type amber. The biomarker compositions in the pyrolysates are dominated by sesquiterpenoids of the cadinane and bisabolane classes that are common constituents of higher plants and labdane type diterpenoids. The exclusive presence of labdane …
Polypeptide composition of invertase-containing vesicles of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
1990
Vesicles containing invertase activity were obtained from protoplast homogenates of Saccharomyces cerevisiae by differential centrifugation followed by gel chromatography. These vesicles were similar in size and shape to yeast coated vesicles, and appear to have a complex polypeptide composition. Most of these polypeptides were seemingly bound to the surface of the vesicular structures, being released by treatment with alkali. A protein with an electrophoretic mobility similar to that of yeast clathrin (molecular mass of 185 kDa) co-purified with vesicles containing invertase activity, and exhibited cross-reactivity with anti-mammalian (pig) clathrin antibodies.
La chiesa e il monastero di San Nicolò di Bisacquino. Note su uno scrigno d'arte perduto
2019
The rich art heritage of the church and monastery of San Nicolò di Bisacquino, a lost art treasure chest, is reconstructed and some works saved from dispersion are identified. From the paintings by Mariano Rossi, who adorned some altars of the church, to the precious works, identifying in some cases for the latter also the creators.
Il complesso monastico di Santa Maria Maddalena di Corleone
2019
Endocytosis in skeletal muscle fibers.
1999
Defining the organization of endocytic pathway in multinucleated skeletal myofibers is crucial to understand the routing of membrane proteins, such as receptors and glucose transporters, through this system. Here we analyzed the organization of the endocytic trafficking pathways in isolated rat myofibers. We found that sarcolemmal-coated pits and transferrin receptors were concentrated in the I band areas. Fluid phase markers were taken up into vesicles in the same areas along the whole length of the fibers and were then delivered into structures around and between the nuclei. These markers also accumulated beneath the neuromuscular and myotendinous junctions. The recycling compartment, lab…
Hypertrophic agonists induce the binding of c-Fos to an AP-1 site in cardiac myocytes: implications for the expression of GLUT1
2003
Objectives: Serum is among the agents known to induce hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes, which occurs concomitant with an increase in AP-1-mediated transcription. We have examined if this effect correlates with changes in the relative abundance of particular AP-1 heterodimers, as their exact composition under these conditions is unknown. Furthermore, we obtained insight on the specific role of c-Fos from studying the induction of the glucose transporter GLUT1 by serum in fibroblasts. Methods: We characterised the AP-1 heterodimers expressed in neonatal cardiac myocytes by supershift electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis. Quantitative changes in transcription were measured using…

The monocyte-macrophage system is affected in lysosomal storage diseases: an immunoelectron microscopic study
1997
Studying peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) has become an important diagnostic tool in lysosomal storage diseases. Previous studies revealed that B and subclasses of T lymphocytes participate in the storage process, whereas the role of circulating monocytes was not clear. In this study, the involvement of CD14+ monocytes in lysosomal diseases was investigated. Blood samples from six patients with different lysosomal storage disorders were studied, including one with late--infantile and three with juvenile neuronal ceroid--lipofuscinoses, and two with mucopolysaccharidosis type VI. CD14+ cells were separated immunomagnetically from PBMCs and studied by light and electron microscopy. …
