Illumina-based RiboMethSeq approach for mapping of 2'-O-Me residues in RNA

2016

International audience; RNA 2'-O-methylation is one of the ubiquitous nucleotide modifications found in many RNA types from Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya. RNAs bearing 2'-O-methylations show increased resistance to degradation and enhanced stability in helices. While the exact role of each 2'-O-Me residue remained elusive, the catalytic protein Fibrillarin (Nop1 in yeast) responsible for 2'-O-methylation in eukaryotes, is associated with human pathologies. Therefore, there is an urgent need to precisely map and quantify hundreds of 2'-O-Me residues in RNA using high-throughput technologies. Here, we develop a reliable protocol using alkaline fragmentation of total RNA coupled to a commonly …

Donne e musica nelle istituzioni religiose di Palermo fra Rinascimento e Barocco

2015

Fermentation of Jerusalem artichoke by Zymomonas and Saccharomyces

2008

PurposeThe aim of this study is to find out the appropriate fermentation conditions of Jerusalem artichoke powder (JAP) based media to obtain light beverage containing inulin.Design/methodology/approachJAP water suspension or filtrate were used for preparation of growth media with or without enzymatic hydrolysis of inulin for fermentation by Zymomonas mobilis 113 “S” or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.FindingsIf enzymatic hydrolysis of inulin was not used significantly higher amount of inulin (7.42 per cent) was unconverted by Z. mobilis than by S. cerevisiae (2.22 per cent) while the ethanol concentration was much higher (2.86 per cent) after S. cerevisiae fermentation than after Z. mobilis ferme…

Biosorption of green and black tea polyphenols into Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves their bioaccessibility

2015

Infusions of green tea (GT) and black tea (BT) and the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a natural matrix were employed to check the impact of biosorption on the possible fate of tea polyphenols in the gastrointestinal tract in terms of bioaccessibility and total antioxidant capacity (TEAC and ORAC assays). The maximum biosorption yields obtained were 47.61 ± 11.57 and 99.68 ± 5.25 mg/g from GT and BT infusions, respectively. A significant increase (p < 0.05) in the recovery of phenolic compounds was shown after in vitro digestion. The bioaccessible fractions generally exhibited higher antioxidant capacities in both tea infusions and suspensions of S. cerevisiae versus non-digested samples…

Baltā Lotosa sekta un tās politiskās aktivitātes

2015

Retention-release equilibrium of aroma compounds in polysaccharide gels: study by quantitative structure-activity/property relationships approach

2010

The nature and amount of constituents in food greatly influence aroma release. Pectins and carrageenans are common used thickeners, but their effect on the release of aroma compounds has been studied more frequently for non- homogeneous products than for thickeners separately. The purpose of this work was to study and compare their respective effects in simple model systems. In this way, the release of 13 aroma compounds was analysed by headspace analysis at equilibrium in pure water, i-carrageenan and pectin gels. To evaluate the influence of the chemical structure of aroma com- pounds on retention/release equilibrium between vapour phase and gels, we used a quantitative structure-activity…

A β-1,3 Glucan Sulfate Induces Resistance in Grapevine against Plasmopara viticola Through Priming of Defense Responses, Including HR-like Cell Death

2008

Sulfated laminarin (PS3) has been shown previously to be an elicitor of plant defense reactions in tobacco and Arabidopsis and to induce protection against tobacco mosaic virus. Here, we have demonstrated the efficiency of PS3 in protecting a susceptible grapevine cultivar (Vitis vinifera cv. Marselan) against downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola) under glasshouse conditions. This induced resistance was associated with potentiated H2O2 production at the infection sites, upregulation of defense-related genes, callose and phenol depositions, and hypersensitive response-like cell death. Interestingly, similar responses were observed following P. viticola inoculation in a tolerant grapevine hybri…

Gellan gum-based delivery systems of therapeutic agents and cells.

2020

The purpose of this review is to make a summary of high quality research trends using gellan gum (GG) as a polymeric constituent for the design of innovative drug delivery systems and devices for biomedical applications, such as cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The use of gellan gum is described both in its native form and as chemically functionalized derivatives or physically mixed with natural or synthetic materials. Starting from a systematic study of recent research works, the main properties of the native polysaccharide have been highlighted and therefore some improvements have been focused thanks to the design of chemically functionalized derivatives and the use of composite ma…

Arbuscular mycorrhiza - studies on the geosiphon symbiosis lead to the characterization of the first glomeromycotan sugar transporter

2007

Article Addendum ; International audience; The intimate arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) association between roots and obligate symbiotic Glomeromycota (‘AM fungi’) ‘feeds’ about 80% of land plants. AM forming fungi supply land plants with inorganic nutrients and have an enormous impact on terrestrial ecosystems. In return, AM fungi obtain up to 20% of the plant‑fixed CO2, putatively as monosaccharides. In a recent work we have reported the characterization of the first glomeromycotan monosaccharide transporter, GpMST1, and its gene sequence. We discuss that AM fungi might take up sugars deriving from plant cell‑wall material. The GpMST1 sequence delivers valuable data for the isolation of orthol…
