This controversial and much debated question forms the basis of this collection of essays as the authors discuss whether the measurable changes in behaviour that result from learning can ever remain entirely unconscious. Three issues central to the topic of implicit learning are raised. Firstly, the extent to which learning can be unconscious, and therefore implicit, is considered. The research objectives of this thesis concern the development of new concepts for image segmentation and region classification for image analysis. This involves implementing new descriptors, whether color, texture, or shape, to characterize regions and propose new deep learning architectures for the various applications linked to facial analysis. Permanently implanting radioactive sources near to the cancer cells is a typical technique to cure early-stage prostate cancer. Any damage to the retina can lead to severe consequences like blindness. This visual impairment is preventable by early detection of ocular abnormalities. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) for ocular abnormalities is built by analyzing retinal imaging modalities, for instance, Color Fundus Photography (CFP). In many applications, it is crucial that a robot or vehicle localizes itself within the world especially for autonomous navigation and driving. The goal of this thesis is to improve place recognition performance for visual localization in changing environment. The approach is as follows: in off-line phase, geo-referenced images of each location are acquired, features are extracted and saved. New hydrogel matrices based on chemical crosslinked α,β -polyas parthydrazide: Synthesis, characterization and in vivo biocompatibility studies

New swellable micromatrices of α,β-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy) crosslinked with glutaraldehyde were prepared. The effect of crosslinking agent concentration was evaluated. In particular, crosslinking density affected aqueous dynamic swelling and glass-transition temperature of the material. The structure of prepared networks was also studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray analysis. Finally, biocompatibility of PAHy derivatives was investigated in vivo by subcutaneous implantation and in oral administration to laboratory animals.
