Smart River : Towards Efficient Cooperative Autonomous Inland Navigation

2022

In recent years, inland waterway transport has witnessed increasing attention from France and many European countries. However, this mode of transport lacks flexibility, has an aging infrastructure, and the current ships are not adapted to an increase in transport capacity ensuring the safety of vessels and goods as well as reliable and constant delivery times. Therefore, inland transport must go through an organizational and technical renovation specific to its particular environment in order to hope to compete with land transport. In this thesis, we propose developing a smart river ecosystem that focuses on three principal axes: (i) automatic inland infrastructure, (ii) autonomous inland s…

Effects of different cellulose derivatives on drug release mechanism studied at a preformulation stage

2003

As a matter of fact, in vitro dissolution is well known to be the method of choice for the pharmaceutical industry to develop effective medicines. However, many experiments must be performed all along a new product life and they represent an overcharge of work for researchers. The purpose of this paper was to assess the relevance of new parameters obtained during preformulation stage by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) experiments to better understand drug release mechanism. This study was carried out with three cellulose derivatives currently used as carrier matrices (Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) and Ethyl cellulose (EC)). Granules and tablets were…

DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY STUDY ON DRUG RELEASE FROM AN INULIN-BASED HYDROGEL AND ITS INTERACTION WITH A BIOMEMBRANE MODEL:pH AND LOADING EFF…

2008

Inulin has been derivatized with methacrylic anhydride (MA) and succinic anhydride (SA) to obtain a methacrylated/succinilated derivative (INU-MA-SA) able to produce a pH sensitive hydrogel after UV irradiation. The hydrogel was characterized and loaded with diflunisal (10.4, 17 and 24%, w/w) chosen as a model drug. The drug release from INU-MA-SA-based hydrogel to a biomembrane model made by unilamellar vesicles of dimyristoylphosphatidyl-choline (DMPC) was investigated at pH 4.0 and 7.4 by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) that appears to be a suitable technique to follow the transfer kinetics of a drug from a controlled release system to a biomembrane model. The drug release from t…

Effect of host kairomones and oviposition experience on the arrestment behavior of an egg parasitoid

2006

SUMMARY Chemical residues left by walking adults of the southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) induce arrestment behavior in the egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston)(Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) leading to prolonged periods of walking on contaminated areas and to systematic return to the stimulus after encountering the treatment borders. In this study, we quantified how the hierarchical value of residues from host adults and oviposition experience can influence the arrestment behavior of T. basalis females. Our results showed that:(1) female wasps perceived host residues at different hierarchical levels depending on the host gender, with a clear pre…

Canakinumab for the Treatment of Autoinflammatory Recurrent Fever Syndromes.

2018

BACKGROUND: Familial Mediterranean fever, mevalonate kinase deficiency (also known as the hyperimmunoglobulinemia D syndrome), and the tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS) are monogenic autoinflammatory diseases characterized by recurrent fever flares. METHODS: We randomly assigned patients with genetically confirmed colchicine-resistant familial Mediterranean fever, mevalonate kinase deficiency, or TRAPS at the time of a flare to receive 150 mg of canakinumab subcutaneously or placebo every 4 weeks. Patients who did not have a resolution of their flare received an add-on injection of 150 mg of canakinumab. The primary outcome was complete response (resolution…

EGFR gene copy number decreases during anti-EGFR antibody therapy in colorectal cancer

2018

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene copy number (GCN) increase is associated with a favorable anti-EGFR antibody treatment response in RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer. However, there are limited and comparative data regarding the EGFR GCN in primary colorectal cancer tumors and corresponding metastases or the effect of anti-EGFR antibody treatment on EGFR GCN in recurrent disease. In addition, little is known about the potential EGFR GCN changes during anti-EGFR therapy in comparison with other treatment regimens. EGFR GCN was analyzed by EGFR immunohistochemistry-guided silver in situ hybridization in primary and corresponding recurrent local or metastatic tumors from 8…

Fitness costs of increased cataract frequency and cumulative radiation dose in natural mammalian populations from Chernobyl

2015

AbstractA cataract is a clouding of the lens that reduces light transmission to the retina and it decreases the visual acuity of the bearer. The prevalence of cataracts in natural populations of mammals and their potential ecological significance, is poorly known. Cataracts have been reported to arise from high levels of oxidative stress and a major cause of oxidative stress is ionizing radiation. We investigated whether elevated frequencies of cataracts are found in eyes of bank voles Myodes glareolus collected from natural populations in areas with varying levels of background radiation in Chernobyl. We found high frequencies of cataracts in voles collected from different areas in Chernob…

Prevention of Hereditary Angioedema Attacks with a Subcutaneous C1 Inhibitor

2017

Prevenció; Atac d'angioedema; Inhibidor C1 Prevención; Ataque de angioedema; Inhibidor C1 Prevention; Angioedema attack; C1 inhibitor BACKGROUND: Hereditary angioedema is a disabling, potentially fatal condition caused by deficiency (type I) or dysfunction (type II) of the C1 inhibitor protein. In a phase 2 trial, the use of CSL830, a nanofiltered C1 inhibitor preparation that is suitable for subcutaneous injection, resulted in functional levels of C1 inhibitor activity that would be expected to provide effective prophylaxis of attacks. METHODS: We conducted an international, prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, phase 3 trial to evaluate the …

Combination Therapy with Oral Treprostinil for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension:A Double-Blind Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial

2020

Rationale: Oral treprostinil improves exercise capacity in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the effect on clinical outcomes was unknown.\ud \ud Objectives: To evaluate the effect of oral treprostinil compared with placebo on time to first adjudicated clinical worsening event in participants with PAH who recently began approved oral monotherapy.\ud \ud Methods: In this event-driven, double-blind study, we randomly allocated 690 participants (1:1 ratio) with PAH to receive placebo or oral treprostinil extended-release tablets three times daily. Eligible participants were using approved oral monotherapy for over 30 days before randomization and had a 6-minute-walk dista…

Influence of GSM signals on human peripheral lymphocytes: study of genotoxicity.

2013

Exposure to radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (EMF) is continuously increasing worldwide. Yet, conflicting results of a possible genotoxic effect of RF EMF continue to be discussed. In the present study, a possible genotoxic effect of RF EMF (GSM, 1,800 MHz) in human lymphocytes was investigated by a collaboration of six independent institutes (institutes a, b, c, d, e, h). Peripheral blood of 20 healthy, nonsmoking volunteers of two age groups (10 volunteers 16-20 years old and 10 volunteers 50-65 years old) was taken, stimulated and intermittently exposed to three specific absorption rates (SARs) of RF EMF (0.2 W/kg, 2 W/kg, 10 W/kg) and sham for 28 h (institute a). The exposures…
