Sample preparation and analysis of gangliosides and phospholipids from plasma by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry

Gangliosides (GG) and phospholipids (PL) are two classes of complex and polar lipids exhibiting a wide structural heterogeneity. LC/MS offers an access to this huge diversity but also faces some challenges. Efficient extraction and purification sample methods are thus required to perform accurate and reliable analyses. To this end, GG and PL were extracted from human plasma with three solvent mixtures (CHCl3/MeOH/H2O) of increasing polarity, in comparison with the reference Folch method. GG were further purified with a Phree Phospholipid Removal column, whose sorbent is designed to selectively remove PL. We have studied optimal sample allocation, associated with small area estimation, when the objective is to obtain as accurate estimates as possible, for the population and for the subpopulations, called as areas here. It is a question of a two-level optimization problem. The basic premise is composed of planned areas, stratified sampling, and small overall sample size predetermined by restricted time and budget resources. Use of artificial substrates for sampling benthic macroinvertebrates in the assessment of water quality of large lowland rivers

The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the usefulness of the artificial substrate sampler in collecting macroinvertebrates for water quality assessment of Polish lowland rivers. This paper presents the results of a comparative study between two different sampling techniques, i.e. nettings filled with brick as artificial substrates and handnet sampling. The validity of applying the biotic index method is also demonstrated. The Belgian Biotic Index (BBI) method and the lower Nysa Kłodzka river were chosen for study. Abstract The aim of the present study was to find whether attitude functions could be useful in predicting aberrant driving. One of the attitudes functions is to express values; hence, we hypothesized that attitudes whose function is to express values will better predict traffic violations. We explored: (i) values in relation to attitudes towards aberrant driving behavior by regression analysis; (ii) and we explored moderating role of attitude functions in value-attitude-behavior relations.
