ANALYSIS OF STUDENT PERCEPTIONS ON THE QUALITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN ROMANIA
2012
This article aims to identify and analyze the perception of students, beneficiaries of educational services in the state and private systems on the quality of higher education services, by using specific tools of marketing research. The perception is a psychological variable influencing consumer behavior.Itis important in the educational services, given the present state of Romanian education, where the educational offer is not correlated with the labor market demand, which can lead to major imbalances in the educational market. The quality of the educational services is a social desirable objective, and its contribution to increased economic efficiency is decisive.
Modes of Study Handbook for Students and Educators
2021
The aim of this handbook is to support the further development of multilingual and multimodal approaches to academic study at JYU. This handbook has been developed within the Faculty of Education and Psychology as part of the Creating Space pedagogical development project during the 2019-2020 academic year, drawing on and developing existing study guides by JYU . We hope, however, that this handbook is useful beyond our Faculty and that it adds language and cultural considerations to the existing study guides. We have provided brief explanations of different types of assignments and academic activities that are part of academic study and relevant to teaching in higher education. We have als…
Mathematics Video Podcasts as Integrated Elements of Online Lessons in Further University Education: In-Service Teachers’ Flow Experiences
2017
This case-study examined in-service teachers’ perceptions of learning by means of online mathematic lessons consisting of a mix of text and video podcasts. The investigation is part of further university education directed at practicing teachers in lower secondary schools. The course was a distant education course, with in-service teachers learning online only. The research, based on a series of questionnaires and follow-up interviews, examined whether in-service teachers perceived that video podcasts embedded in online lessons fostered their learning compared to reading similar material. The study focused on efficiency, enjoyment, and concentration as perceived conditions for learning in c…
Algebra at the start of Upper Secondary School : A case study of a Norwegian mathematics classroom with emphasis on the relationship between the math…
2017
Norwegian students at the end of lower secondary school are according to international comparative studies weak in algebra. This thesis reports a study of a mathematics classroom at the start of upper secondary school, when basic algebra, number, and number operations are recapitulated. One aim has been to study what kind of mathematics is emphasised. The analysis is done on the basis of the textbook, the tasks, and the presentation in the classroom. Another aim has been to inquire into what experiences students have of the mathematics offered in the classroom. Experiences are not directly accessible, but the analyses are based on students’ oral and written responses in the classroom and in…
Validation of measures for assessing management and evaluation skills in university professors
2010
We present the results of a validation process two scales to measure skills of teachers teaching in a public university in Mexico. The elements to consider in this project were checking to test the construct validity and reliability of the method of collection, as well as contributing to the technical dimension of the evaluation of teachers.
Understanding the teacher’s role in supporting students’ generalization when investigating sequences
2009
The aim of this paper is to analyse the teacher’s role in supporting students’ work in mathematical investigations, in particular, with one task which involves generalisation in sequences in the 8th grade, and the constraints the teacher faces when performing this role. The lessons were audio and video recorded and the teacher was interviewed in order to understand her options and perspectives about the classroom events. Five aspects of the teacher’s role have being identified regarding her support to students’ generalisation, namely, suggesting them to: display more steps in the sequence; draw a different representation, usually a table; establish a relation between the term and its positi…
Curriculum Development of a Health Informatics Master Course in Understanding Technology
2018
Education in health informatics is an important contribution to the digital transformation in health care services, and there is a need to combine health and technology competencies. Traditional ways with separation of health sciences and computer science have shortcomings, and there is need for individuals with a holistic view and relevant education background for improving the technology-supported clinical work processes. This paper presents how the curriculum was organised in a course in “Understanding Technology”, which was a part of a Master's Programme in Health Informatics. The course targeted different aspects of technology for students with a diverse background, and it was organise…
EDUCATIONAL METHODS FOR INTELLIGENT TUTORING SYSTEMS IN ILL-DEFINED DOMAINS
2012
In the development of e-learning, an increasing amount of attention is given to intelligent tutoring systems, i.e., systems that attempt to emulate the human methods and strategies of teaching. The current paper aims to show some of the ways in which educational methods can be implemented into such tutors, focusing on the most complex and challenging area - ill-defined domains, i.e., domains that lack a systematic solving approach.
An exploration of teaching and learning activities in mathematics flipped classrooms : A case study in an engineering program
2020
Paper I is not available as a part of the dissertation due to the copyright. Author´s accepted manuscript of the paper is available in AURA as a separate file: https://hdl.handle.net/11250/2655384. This research project is a case-study of three consecutive cohorts of engineering students being subject to the pedagogical approach of flipped classroom (Bergmann & Sams, 2012). The study, which is qualitative and based on a naturalistic research paradigm (Moschkovich & Brenner, 2000), considers various aspects of mathematical learning when students are subject to this new form of learner-centred teaching (Stephan, 2014). Research on Flipped Classroom (FC) has increased substantially during the …
Teaching Spanish Pragmatics through colloquial conversations
2017
This paper focus on the advantages of teaching and learning a foreign language with and through spoken discursive corpora, and especially colloquial and conversational ones. The benefits of developing oral competence and communicative skills in language learners using colloquial conversations will be exposed and discussed.
