New human remains of Archaic Homo sapiens and Lower Palaeolithic industries from Visogliano (Duino Aurisina, Trieste, Italy).

New human remains have been found during recent excavations conducted in the lower section of Visogliano dolina (Trieste, Italy). They are represented by teeth and a fragment of particularly robust mandible that for their morphological and morphometrical characters can be generically attributed to archaic Homo sapiens. The lithic industry is formed by flakes, carinated points, scrapers, choppers and chopping tools and is characteristic of the Italian Pebble Culture. Sediments, pollen and faunal remains indicate that this part of the deposit was formed during interglacial climatic conditions in the early, but not initial phase of Middle Pleistocene (isotopic stadium 13 or 11).
Visaptverošs ekonomikas un tirdzniecības nolīgums (CETA)starp ES un Kanādu: ģeogrāfiskās izcelsmes norāžu aizsardzība

Maģistra darba ietvaros tiek analizēta zinātniskā literatūra par Visaptverošo ekonomikas un tirdzniecības nolīgumu, kas ir jauns nolīgums, par kuru vienojās ES un Kanāda. Maģistra darba mērķu sasniegšanai tika pētītas dažādas tirdzniecības teorijas, kā arī īpašā uzmanība tika pievērsta PTO lomai tirdzniecības liberalizācijā un RTV un BTZ problēmām mūsdienas protekcionisma ietekmē. Padziļināti tika izpētītas ģeogrāfiskas izcelsmes norādes, to jo īpaši to aizsardzība ES likumdošanā un VETN. Pētījumā rezultāta tika noskaidrotas priekšrocības un iespējamas problēmas, ko dod Visaptverošs ekonomikas un tirdzniecības nolīgums attiecībā uz ģeogrāfiskas izcelsmes norāžu aizsardzību.
CD59 (homologous restriction factor 20), a plasma membrane protein that protects against complement C5b-9 attack, in human atherosclerotic lesions

Blood cells express a cell membrane protein, termed homologous restriction factor 20 (HRF20) and identical to CD59, that can inhibit complement C5b-9 insertion into their membranes. In this report, we investigated by immunohistochemistry whether CD59 was present on cells in human atherosclerotic lesions since membranous C5b-9(m) has been found in lesions. Using a monoclonal anti-CD59 antibody, a cellular CD59 staining pattern was apparent in nearly all lesion specimens. Abstract Weathering and soil formation rates are regarded as the main criteria of a tolerable soil loss. The efficiency of weathering in the seasonal semiarid tropics has often been greatly over-estimated especially in the geomorphologic literature in which weathering is assumed to be as fast or even faster than surface erosion. Six selected “Red Soils” in two intramontane basins of hyperthermic SW Nepal near the border with India, with 1500–1750 mm annual rainfall (5 humid months), and a “Black Soil” near Baroda, Gujarat, India (3–4 humid months) were studied mineralogically.
