GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral

On August 17, 2017 at 12-41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×104 years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M, with the total mass of the system 2.74-0.01+0.04M. Timing an Accreting Millisecond Pulsar: Measuring the Accretion Torque in IGR J00291+5934

We performed a timing analysis of the fastest accreting millisecond pulsar IGR J00291+5934 using RXTE data taken during the outburst of December 2004. We corrected the arrival times of all the events for the orbital (Doppler) effects and performed a timing analysis of the resulting phase delays. In this way we have the possibility to study, for the first time in this class of sources, the spin-up of a millisecond pulsar as a consequence of accretion torques during the X-ray outburst. In Sicily transhumance is still today - even if resized - a practice in which copious shepherds have to turn to, while in Sardinia pastoral mobility disappeared in the 1970s of the last century – however short-range movements remain still active. After outlining a brief historical framework of transhumance in the two islands, the speech would like to reflect on how the traits of history and identity of this practice are starting to change into a new cultural and economic resource, aimed at the safeguard and the valorization of an important material and immaterial heritage and at the promotion of experiential and sustainable forms of tourism.

Three new parakalummid mites of the subgenus Neoribates (Neoribates), N. (N.) parabulanovae sp. n., N. (N.) paramacrosacculatus sp. n. and N. (N.) pararotundus sp. n., are described from Nepalese soils. Neoribates (Neoribates) parabulanovae sp. n. is morphologically most similar to N. (N.) bulanovae Grishina, 2009, N. Mērķi. Sniegt labākos šobrīd pieejamos pierādījumus par mātes saslimstību, kas rezultējas ar histerektomiju un ir saistīta ar ĶG veikšanu sievietēm, kurām jau bijis ĶG. Salīdzināt riska faktorus grupās "histerektomija" un "ne histerektomija”. Noteikt bērna stāvokli, izmantojot Apgares skalu, pēc ĶG un pēc vaginālām dzemdībām. Materiāli un metodes. Pētījumā retrospektīvi analizēti dati par 1620 pacientēm, kas 2015 līdz 2017. gada novembrim. Visām sievietēm ir iepriekš bijis veikts ĶG, tātad: uz dzemdes bija rēta. Tutkimuksen kohteena ovat Sinikka ja Tiina Nopolan kirjoittamassa Heinähattu ja Vilttitossu -kirjasarjassa esiintyvät henkilönnimet ja niihin rinnastuvat eläinten, kuvitteellisten hahmojen ja lelujen nimet. Tutkimuksessa käsitellään nimien keskeisyyttä, rakennetta, funktioita, käyttöä ja henkilöiden nimeämistä. Aineisto koostuu yhteensä 153 nimestä. Aineiston nimet voi jakaa keskeisyyden mukaan neljään pääryhmään: päähahmojen nimiin, avustavien hahmojen nimiin, satelliittihahmojen nimiin ja kulissihahmojen nimiin. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin suomenkielisten nuorten lukutaitoa ja sen taustalla olevia kognitiivisia tekijöitä. Artikkeli on ilmestynyt lehdessä Scientific Studies of Reading otsikolla ”The nature of and factors related to reading difficulties among adolescents in a transparent orthography”. Tutkimuksessa verrattiin sanojen, pseudosanojen (merkityksettömien sanojen) ja tekstin lukemisen nopeutta ja tarkkuutta sekä nopean sarjallisen nimeämisen ja fonologisen prosessoinnin yhteyttä lukemisvaikeuksisten ja tyypillisesti lukevien nuorten ryhmissä. Nuorten lukemisvaikeudet näkyivät ensisijaisesti hitaana lukemisena. Lukemistarkkuus oli ongelma aikapaineistetussa pseudosanojen lukemistehtävässä.…

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten sujuvasti neljännen luokan oppilaat lukevat, ja millaisia taustataitoja sujuva lukeminen edellyttää. Tutkimukseen osallistui 85 neljännen luokan oppilasta. Oppilaat tekivät erilaisia kielellisiä ja kognitiivisia taitoja mittaavia tehtäväsarjoja, joiden tuloksia verrattiin lukemistestien tuloksiin. Lukemissujuvuuden muuttujina tutkimuksessa käytettiin sanojen ja epäsanojen lukemista sekä kahden lyhyen tekstin lukemiseen käytettyä aikaa. Tehtäväsarjojen avulla tutkittiin nopean sarjallisen nimeämisen, artikulaationopeuden, prosessointinopeuden, yleisen kykytason ja visuaalisen tunnistamisen yhteyttä lukemistesteissä menestymiseen.
