Fostering aspects of pre-service teachers’ data literacy: Results of a randomized controlled trial

Abstract The present study reports the results of a randomized controlled trial aimed at fostering specific aspects of pre-service teachers’ data literacy. The 6-h intervention focused on data types, reference norms, scale transformations, graphic displays of the properties of frequency distributions, and judgments about the magnitude of mean differences. Pretest-posttest comparisons of a data literacy test showed a large and significant effect of the intervention. Furthermore, main effects but no significant interaction effects with pretest scores were found for personal and motivational covariates (academic self-concept, value beliefs, study interest) on posttest data literacy.

Destination engagement on Facebook: Time and seasonality

Abstract This paper studies the influence of time frames (posting day and posting time) and seasonality (low, medium and high) on positive/negative engagement in a Destination Management Organization (DMO) on Facebook. A content analysis was carried out on 639 posts, 178,913 audience reactions to such posts and 5330 comments. These posts were shared 45,194 times by the audience. The data analysis (regression analyses with optimal scaling) suggests that the best times to post are at 8 am , 10 am , 2 pm and 5 pm ; Thursday and Saturday are the best days to post, and the period before summer (from January to June) are the best months. What makes environmental performance differ between firms? Empirical evidence from the Spanish tile industry

Environmental performance is a matter of major concern both for policy makers and for firm managers. In this paper we interpret firms' environmental performance as their ability to reduce polluting wastes while maintaining observed levels of inputs and desirable outputs. Making use of data envelopment analysis techniques, we compute waste-specific environmental efficiency measures for a sample of ceramic-tile producers located in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia. Our results show that there exists substantial room for improving environmental performance, which would have highly beneficial consequences for the local environment. This paper examines tourists' knowledge sharing behavior in social media. Based on social capital theory, we aim to examine the effects of three dimensions of social capital—structural (social interaction ties), cognitive (shared vision) and relational (trust)—for two different types of social media: Facebook and TripAdvisor. We propose a structural model that connects an antecedent (homophily) and a consequence (knowledge sharing through posting) of these main dimensions of social capital.
