Is There Anything New to Say About SIFT Matching?

SIFT is a classical hand-crafted, histogram-based descriptor that has deeply influenced research on image matching for more than a decade. In this paper, a critical review of the aspects that affect SIFT matching performance is carried out, and novel descriptor design strategies are introduced and individually evaluated. These encompass quantization, binarization and hierarchical cascade filtering as means to reduce data storage and increase matching efficiency, with no significant loss of accuracy. On the Design of Fast Wavelet Transform Algorithms With Low Memory Requirements

In this paper, a new algorithm to efficiently compute the two-dimensional wavelet transform is presented. This algorithm aims at low memory consumption and reduced complexity, meeting these requirements by means of line-by-line processing. In this proposal, we use recursion to automatically place the order in which the wavelet transform is computed. This way, we solve some synchronization problems that have not been tackled by previous proposals. Furthermore, unlike other similar proposals, our proposal can be straightforwardly implemented from the algorithm description. Variable fractional Fourier processor: a simple implementation

A new set of optical implementations of the fractional Fourier transform (FRT) is developed by use of Wigner matrix algebra. The reinterpretation of some elementary operations that synthesize a rotation in the phase-space domain allows us to propose a lensless setup for obtaining the FRT. This compact configuration is also very flexible, because the fractional degree of the transformation can be varied continuously by shifting the input and the output planes along the optical axis by proper amounts. Abstract We generalize the K − ϵ model of classical turbulence to superfluid helium. In a classical viscous fluid the phenomenological eddy viscosity characterizing the effects of turbulence depends on the turbulent kinetic energy K and the dissipation function ϵ , which are mainly related to the fluctuations of the velocity field and of its gradient. In superfluid helium, instead, we consider the necessary coefficients for describing the effects of classical and quantum turbulence, involving fluctuations of the velocity, the heat flux, and the vortex line density of the quantized vortex lines. We have studied the Lewis acid mediated domino reaction between 2-cyclohexenone and methyl azide at the B3LYP/6-31G* and B3LYP/6-31+G**//B3LYP/6-31G* levels of theory. A complete survey of the potential energy surface is presented, and the structures of the stationary points and the corresponding molecular mechanism are discussed. The calculations suggest that the product, a cyclopentanone derivative, is formed by means of a domino process that comprises three consecutive reactions. The ability to direct differentiation of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells into specific lineages not only provides new insights into the pathways that regulate lineage selection but also has translational applications, for example in drug discovery. We set out to develop a method of differentiating ES cells into mesodermal cells at high efficiency without first having to induce embryoid body formation.
