A Basic Program for Calculating Scale Values Using Four Unidimensional Scaling Methods in Random Subsamples
1993
This MS BASIC program calculates and stores for further analysis scale values obtained from random subsamples using four unidimensional scaling methods: Dunn-Rankin's variance stable rank sums, Thurstone's case V (paired comparisons), Thurstone-Chave's IAI, and Green's successive categories.
Measuring Illness Behavior in One Minute
2019
Abstract. The present study addresses shortcomings in previous psychometric research into the Scale for the Assessment of Illness Behavior (SAIB) and develops a short form, the SAIB-10. We used ant-colony optimization to construct a subset of items in an exploratory sample ( n = 1,187) and affirmed it in factor analysis in a confirmatory sample ( n = 1,208). We find excellent model fit and evidence for strict invariance across sex and age. As expected, there were associations with distressed personality, perceived social support, and mental health. Finally, we report normative values for usage by researchers and clinicians. In sum, the SAIB-10 is an economical measure of illness behavior a…
Socialização parental: adaptação ao Brasil da escala ESPA29
2011
The objective of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the ESPA29 Parental Socialization Scale (Musitu & Garcia, 2001). This scale allows measuring parental styles - authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and negligent - by means of two independent dimensions of parental conduct extracted from parents' use of different socialization practices. Using a sample of 2.105 Brazilian adolescents from 10 to 18 years old, the structure of two factors that define the scale - Acceptance/Implication and Strictness/Imposition - has been replicated using an exploratory factorial analysis. In order to complete a proper replication of the ESPA29 scale structure…
MODEL DAN PELUANG TERJADINYA HUJAN BERDASARKAN KELEMBABAN MENGGUNAKAN REGRESI LOGISTIK BINER DI KABUPATEN MANOKWARI
2020
Manokwari Regrency has a tropical climate. This results in significant rainfall. One factor that stimulates rain is humidity. By using binary logistic regression, the model an chance of rainfall based on humidity can be determined. Logistic regression analysis is used to determine the relationship between categorical scale response variables and numeric or categoric scale explanatory variables. If response variable used is nominal scale with two possoble value (0 and 1), then it is called binary logistic regression. Estimation of the model is done by logit transformation. The model produce in this study is g(x) = -23.443 + 0.289 humidity. The accuracy of the model is 70.4 percent and …
Validation of the Marathon Motivation Scale in Chile
2021
The objective of this work was to validate the Marathon Motivation Scale (MOMS) for its application in the Chilean context. The study used a non-experimental, descriptive and transversal design. The sample was non-probability and intentional and was composed of 250 subjects (143 male and 104 female) runners who participated in the International Marathon of Viña del Mar with an average age of 29.8 (TD = 10.1) years. For the analysis of the data, an exploratory factorial analysis was carried out with free parameters, another one with seven factors fixed to the theoretical dimensions and a confirmatory factorial analysis with the items corresponding to the MOMS model. The validity and reliabil…
Improved Properties of the Big Five Inventory and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale in the Expanded Format Relative to the Likert Format.
2019
Previous research by Zhang and Savalei (2015) proposed an alternative scale format to the Likert scale format: the Expanded format. Scale items in the Expanded format present both positively worded and negatively worded sentences as response options for each scale item; therefore, they were less affected by the acquiescence bias and method effects that often occur in the Likert scale items. The major goal of the current study is to further demonstrate the superiority of the Expanded format to the Likert format across different psychological scales. Specifically, we aim to replicate the findings of Zhang and Savalei and to determine whether order effect exists in the Expanded format scales. …
Sex Pheromone of Chilo Suppressalis: Efficient Syntheses of (Z)-11-Hexadecenal, (Z)-13-Octadecenal And (Z)-9-Hexadecenal
1996
Abstract The constituents of the sex attractant pheromone of Chilo suppressalis: (Z)-11-Hexedecenal 1, (Z)-13-octadecenenal 2 and (Z)-9-Hexadecenal 3 have been synthesized as their ethylene acetals 19, 15 and 13, in six steps from easily available compounds. The synthetic methodology can be applied to preparative scale.
Multi-scale analysis of shell growth increments using wavelet transform
1999
Abstract Shell increments contain information related to the evolution of the environment in which the organism grew during its biomineralization. To extract the information from variations in shell topography, a new and promising technique is presented, involving multi-scale analysis of the shell topography using a B-spline wavelet transform. An accurate non-contact optical system, based on laser triangulation, is used to map the shell surface. The resulting range image is treated as a grey-level image by using a multi-resolution approach based on the generalization of the cascade algorithm. This method allows reconstruction of non-subsampled images that correspond to the projection onto t…
Small-Scale Sport Events and Local Community Perceptions
2020
With issues related to overtourism and, more specifically, tourismphobia, the impacts of any tourism-related activities are being scrutinised. Events falling under this category are therefore being scrutinised. Community events having been hailed to contribute to bridge the gap between locals and visitors, this chapter is going to look at small scale events and, more specifically, community sport event in Winchester (UK). Research carried by Seraphin et al. provided evidence that locals are overall very supportive of events going on in the city. That said, the research did not look at types of events, but events overall. This chapter is therefore going to provide a close up on a specific ty…
Validity and reliability of the Polish adaptation of the Health-Related Hardiness Scale – the first confirmatory factor analysis results for a common…
2020
BackgroundThe Health-Related Hardiness Scale (HRHS) developed by Pollock is one of the most widely used measures to assess the construct of hardiness in chronic diseases. However, the original structure of the scale has been investigated only with exploratory factor analysis, and there have been no studies investigating the structure of the scale using a confirmatory approach, so significant doubts about the validity of the scale could be raised.Participants and procedureA total of 450 participants took part in the study, with the majority suffering from chronic diseases. A Polish ver-sion of the HRHS, the Sense of Coherence questionnaire (SOC-29), the Resiliency Assessment Scale (SPP-25), …
