A method to identify biological aerosol particles with radius > 0.3μmfor the determination of their size distribution

Abstract The relevance of biological aerosol will be demonstrated. A method to determine the sizedistribution of the biological aerosols is shown, which gives the opportunity to determine a lower limit of the biological particles. For evaluation a light microscope and a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer are used.

Applications of Super Resolution Expansion Microscopy in Yeast

Super-resolution microscopy includes multiple techniques in optical microscopy that enable sub-diffraction resolution fluorescence imaging of cellular structures. Expansion microscopy (EXM) is a method of physical expansion to obtain super-resolution images of a biological sample on conventional microscopy. We present images of yeast organelles, applying the combination of super-resolution and ExM techniques. When preparing pre-expanded samples, conventional methods lead to breakage of dividing yeast cells and difficulties in studying division-related proteins. Frame-based and frameless endoscopic procedures in the third ventricle.

Stereotactic guidance is useful for planning an accurate trajectory to the third ventricle. A guiding block with a ball joint was developed for frame-based endoscopy and adaptors for arm-based and armless navigation systems. Between 1992 and 1996, 52 patients were operated on endoscopically in the third ventricle under stereotactic guidance. Thirty-eight ventriculostomies, 13 biopsies and 10 cystic lesions were performed. The coordinates of two points were calculated; one in the foramen of Monro and the second in the third ventricle. Iconic environments intend to provide expressive tools to implement, to debug and to execute programs. Moreover its pictorial constructs guide the user to design algorithms in an interactive fashion. Visual interfaces are especially required whenever programs run on an heterogeneous and reconfigurable multiprocessor system oriented to image analysis. Pictorial tools help the user to control the scope of variables, and the distribution of the tasks into the processors. Viewing the Sun as an X-ray star

The Sun is the late-type star we can study with the highest level of detail. In the interpretation of stellar data, therefore, it is often assumed that the physical processes of the coronae of late-type stars are similar to those of the solar corona, i.e. the "solar-stellar analogy". In order to investigate the validity of this assumption, we have started a program to study systematically the Sun as an X-ray star. Our program aims to explore how far the solar model can be applied to other stars. Multi-messenger observations of the transient sky to detect cosmic explosions and counterparts of gravitational wave mergers critically rely on orbiting wide-FoV telescopes to cover the wide range of wavelengths where atmospheric absorption and emission limit the use of ground facilities. Search for Neutrino‐induced Cascades from Gamma‐Ray Bursts with AMANDA

Using the neutrino telescope AMANDA-II, we have conducted two analyses searching for neutrino-induced cascades from gamma-ray bursts. No evidence of astrophysical neutrinos was found, and limits are presented for several models. We also present neutrino effective areas which allow the calculation of limits for any neutrino production model. The first analysis looked for a statistical excess of events within a sliding window of 1 or 100 seconds (for short and long burst classes, respectively) during the years 2001-2003. The resulting upper limit on the diffuse flux normalization times E^2 for the Waxman-Bahcall model at 1 PeV is 1.6 x 10^-6 GeV cm^-2 s^-1 sr^-1 (a factor of 120 above the the…
