The mitogen-activated protein kinase p38 pathway is conserved in metazoans: Cloning and activation of p38 of the SAPK2 subfamily from the sponge Sube…
2000
Our recent data suggest that during auto- and allograft recognition in sponges (Porifera), cytokines are differentially expressed. Since the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction modulates the synthesis and release of cytokines, we intended to identify one key molecule of this pathway. Therefore, a cDNA from the marine sponge Suberites domuncula encoding the MAPK was isolated and analyzed. Its encoded protein is 366 amino acids long (calculated Mr 42 209), has a TGY dual phosphorylation motif in protein kinase subdomain VIII and displays highest overall similarity to the mammalian p38 stress activated protein kinase (SAPK2), one subfamily of MAPKs. The sponge protein w…
The Large Observatory For x-ray Timing
2014
The Large Observatory For x-ray Timing (LOFT) was studied within ESA M3 Cosmic Vision framework and participated in the final down-selection for a launch slot in 2022-2024. Thanks to the unprecedented combination of effective area and spectral resolution of its main instrument, LOFT will study the behaviour of matter under extreme conditions, such as the strong gravitational field in the innermost regions of accretion flows close to black holes and neutron stars, and the supra-nuclear densities in the interior of neutron stars. The science payload is based on a Large Area Detector (LAD, 10 m 2 effective area, 2-30 keV, 240 eV spectral resolution, 1 deg collimated field of view) and a WideFi…
Development of Food Preferences and Appetite in the First Years
2016
International audience; Infants are born equipped to ingest nutrients, but have to learn how, what and how much to eat. This must occur early, because the mode of feeding evolves dramatically, from ‘tube’ feeding in utero to eating table foods with the family. Eating habits established during early years contribute to the development of subsequent eating habits. Therefore, it is fundamental to understand the most important early periods for the development of eating habits and the drivers of this development. Here we will focus on the first three years of postnatal life. Several characteristics of the eating experience contribute to drive infant’s eating and to shape preferences and energy …
Spilling the beans: The development of conceptual knowledge about food and its links with food rejection in young children (3-7-years-old)
2021
Insufficient dietary variety in children leads to significant nutrient deficiencies and health issues, both in childhood and later life (DeCosta et al., 2017). Cognitive mechanisms, such as categorization and conceptual knowledge, play an important role in understanding and appropriately accepting or rejecting foods (Mura Paroche et al., 2017). The food domain lends itself to many concepts and categories, such as taxonomic (i.e., lamb is meat), thematic (i.e., lamb goes on a plate), or script (i.e., lamb is eaten at dinner). Such knowledge aids accurate recognition, understanding, and appropriate interaction when confronted with foods situated in context. If conceptual knowledge is underdev…
Modelling the influence of automaticity of behaviour on physical activity motivation, intention and actual behaviour
2014
In research and in practise social-cognitive models, such as the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), are used to predict physical activity behaviour. These models mainly focus on reflective cognitive processes. As a reflective process, intention is thought to be the most proximal predictor to behaviour. Nevertheless, research suggests that the relation between intention and actual behaviour, the so called intention-behaviour gap, is moderate. Many health-related actions in daily life are performed repetitively and with minimal forethought. In contrast to social-cognitive theories, dual-process theories suggest that behaviour is based on both reflective and automatic processes. Recent researc…
Mise en évidence d'un Sénonien gypseux sous la série phosphatée du bassin des Ouled Abdoun: un nouveau point de départ pour l'origine des zones déran…
2013
In the Ouled Abdoun sedimentary basin (Morocco), the phosphatic series is composed of regular interbedded phosphatic and marly limestone layers. Exploitation of the phosphate in some deposits in this basin collides frequently with problems bound to the existence, in the phosphatic series, of disturbed areas (sterile bodies) qualified as derangements by the mining engineers of the Office Cherifian Phosphate Group (OCP). Their presence in the phosphatic layers causes two kinds of problems: (1) since the whole phosphatic sequence is overlain by a Quaternary cover, we do not know their volume proportion in the phosphatic layers, and therefore the reserves estimations can be wrong (2) they are g…

2020
Biographical note addressing all aspects of the intellectual and artistic life of Charles Nodier (1780-1844), the reasons for his exclusion from the Pantheon of French Letters from his death until the second half of the 20th century and the most recent signs of its gradual rebirth.
Etude de l'évolution du potentiel génétique de populations bactériennes dégradant l'atrazine
2011
Atrazine, one of the most used herbicide to control the development of weeds in crop, has led to the contamination of the environment. Repeated exposure to this herbicide resulted in the emergence of microbial populations able to degrade atrazine and to use it as a nitrogen source for its growth. These microbial populations are responsible for accelerated biodegradation of atrazine (BDA), a key ecosystemic service diminishing the persistence of this herbicide in the environment. The aim of this PhD work was to study genetic and physiological mechanisms responsible for functioning and improving of this ecosystemic service. We applied an experimental approach starting from genes to communitie…
