Why do Third Sector Employees Intend to Remain or Leave their Workplace?

2016

Third sector employees have claimed to enjoy high job satisfaction and low turnover intentions because their work is considered intrinsically rewarding. Employees have strong motivation for public service and they consider the organization’s goals as their own. This makes work meaningful and thus reduces turnover intentions. Changes in the third sector institutional environment, however, have intensified the working environment. This probably undermines job quality and thus increases turnover intentions. The analysis conducted among Finnish third sector employees showed that third sector employees report more turnover intentions than their counterparts in the public or private sector. This …

Marchés du travail et disparités régionales en Pologne

2001

This article evaluates empirically the effect o f market introduction on the level o f regional inequalities and on the polarisation o f economic activities in Poland. We note an increase o f the disparities between regions over the relevant period. The re-polarisation process cannot been explained by a spatial re-allocation of labour force but rather results o f the differentiation of sectoral restructuring between regions the regional diversity o f sectoral adaptation. The search for agglomeration economies explains the spatial concentration o f services and o f added value in the regions where the biggest cities are located. A cumulative process o f agglomeration is observed. Therefore, …

Socijalna ekonomija u Europskoj uniji

2012

Energy, economic and environmental analysis on RET-hydrogen systems in residential buildings

2008

The aim of this study was to analyze energy, economic and environmental performances of a set of scenarios dealing with the production and the use of hydrogen as energy carriers in residential applications in combination with renewable energy (RE). The authors also made an investigation into the required economic conditions necessary for making H2–RE residential systems competitive with conventional ones, which are based on the use of grid electricity and natural gas. A case study was enacted in a small residential district in Palermo (Italy) made by five multi-storey buildings. Many energy systems have been considered according to several fuel-device combinations (electric grid, fuel cell,…

Doing Mathematics with Tools: One Task, Four Tools

2016

This chapter illustrates a variety of mathematical and educational issues arising from doing a single task with different tools. One task is considered, bisect an angle. The chapter has four sections, each devoted to issues in using one tool to complete this task: a straight edge and compass; a protractor; a dynamic geometry system; and a book.

AULAS DE ECODISEÑO: ANÁLISIS DE CICLO DE VIDA Y ECODISEÑO EN LA INDUSTRIA

2011

This paper shows the work made by the Ecodesign Learning Centre of Engineering School at the University of the Basque Country and at Mondragon University. Some engineering students have carried out Life Cycle Assessment, Ecodesign and applied research projects in some Basque Companies. One of those projects consisted in a Life cycle assessment of a hydraulic press. The aim of this project was to point out some improvement measures to be used in future designs of machine tools. That kind of products will soon be affected by the Energy using Products Directive. In another project, an environmental product declaration was made for a radio controlled electronic lock. The last project which is p…

The Development of the Activity-Based Costing Method: A Comparison between France and China

2011

In France, like in the USA, ABC was considered as a remedy for the crisis of management accounting. Now, the level of diffusion in France is as important as in Anglo-Saxon countries. Not surprisingly, the ABC method is more developed in western countries than in China. Chinese scholars began to do researches on ABC in the 1990s and at the beginnings of the 21st century, we can observe some ABC implementations in Chinese manufacturing enterprises and then in the service industries. We can also find a similarity between the Chinese and French situations. In France, we have observed some resistances to the Anglo-Saxon way of manage firms and at the beginnings, a tool like ABC has been strongly…

The comprehensive aerospace index (CASI): Tracking the economic performance of the aerospace industry

2008

In this paper, we described the Comprehensive Aerospace Index (CASI), a financial index aimed at representing the economic performance of the aerospace industry. CASI is build upon a data set of approximately 20 years of daily close prices set, from January 1987 to June 2007, from a comprehensive sample of leading aerospace-related companies with stocks negotiated on the New York Exchange (NYSE) and on the over-the-counter (OTC) markets. We also introduced the sub-indices CASI-AERO, for aeronautical segment, and CASI-SAT for satellite segment. and considered the relation between them. These three indices are compared to others aerospace indices and to more traditional general financial indi…

The Luenberger productivity indicator in the water industry: An empirical analysis for England and Wales

2014

Abstract We innovate in the field of water companies' performance with an application of the directional distance function and the Luenberger productivity indicator (LPI) to the assessment of water companies' productivity growth. The advantage of our approach is that it takes into account both input contractions and output expansions. The analysis covered 22 water companies from England and Wales using data over the period 2001–2008. To the best of our knowledge, there are no prior studies applying the Luenberger productivity indicator to the water industry in England and Wales or other countries. For the sake of comparison, the traditional Malmquist productivity index (MPI) was also estima…
