Substratum recognition as settlement cue for larvae of Dendropoma cristatum (Biondi, 1859)

Despite the ecological relevance of the vermetid bioconstructions in the Mediterranean, little is known about the early life stage of Dendropoma cristatum. This study describes the preference for settlement substrata from D. cristatumlarvae. A field experiment was carried out to test the suitability of crustose coralline algae (CCA), D. cristatumadults and two inorganic substrata as settlement surfaces. The number of settling larvae varied among the four treatments with higher settlement success on organic surfaces. Abstract. Most archaeological predictive models lack significance because fuzziness of data and uncertainty in knowledge about human behaviour and natural processes are hardly ever considered. One possibility to cope with such uncertainties is utilization of probability based approaches like Bayes Theorem or Dempster-Shafer-Theory. We analyzed an area of 50 km2 in Rhineland Palatinate (Germany) near a Celtic oppidum by use of Dempster-Shafer's theory of evidence for predicting spatial probability distribution of archaeological sites. The IEEE 802.16 standard defines the ARQ mechanismas a part of the MAC layer. The functioning of the ARQmechanism depends on a number of parameters. The IEEE802.16 specification defines them but it does not provide concrete values and solutions. This paper studies the key features and parameters of the 802.16 ARQ mechanism. In particular, we consider a choice for the ARQ feedback type, an algorithm to build block sequences, the ARQ feedback intensity, a scheduling of the ARQ feedbacks and retransmissions, the ARQ block rearrangement, ARQ transmission window and the ARQ block size. From Overstoichiometric to Substoichiometric Enantioselective Protonation with 2-Sulfinyl Alcohols: A View in Perspective

A general study of the enantioselective protonation of prochiral enolates with 2-sulfinyl alcohols is reported. The modification of reaction conditions to reduce drastically the amount of chiral proton source needed to obtain a good enantiomeric excess is reported. The effects of the different factors controlling the stereoselectivity are clearly established. Different protocols for enolate generation are compared.
Triazolopyridines 22.1 Description of new 7,9-di(2-pyridyl)[1,2,3]triazolo[5',1':6,1]pyrido[3,2-d]pyrimidines

The new heteroaromatic compounds, 7,9-di(2-pyridyl)(1,2,3)triazolo(5',1':6,1)pyrido(3,2-d) pyrimidines 11a-c, were synthesized in two steps from readily available triazolopyridines 1a-c. Regioselective lithiation of 1a-c followed by treatment with 2-cyanopyridine gave a mixture of compounds 5a-c, and 11a-c in moderate to low yields, together with gums. Similar reactions with the triazolopyridine 1d gave as the only identified compound the triazolopyridine derivative 5d.

A collection of 26 polyammonium cyclophane-type macrocycles with a large structural diversity has been screened for G-quadruplex recognition. A two-step selection procedure based on the FRET-melting assay was carried out enabling identification of macrocycles of high affinity (ΔT1/2up to30°C) and high selectivity for the human telomeric G-quadruplex. The four selected hits possess sophisticated architectures, more particularly the presence of a pendant side-arm as well as the existence of a particular topological arrangement appear to be strong determinants of quadruplex binding. Merino sheep represents a valuable genetic resource worldwide. In this study, we investigated selection signatures in Merino (and Merino-derived) sheep breeds using genome-wide SNP data and two different approaches: a classical F-ST-outlier method and an approach based on the analysis of local ancestry in admixed populations. In order to capture the most reliable signals, we adopted a combined, multi-cohort approach.
