Rainfall timing and runoff: The influence of the criterion for rain event separation

2016

Abstract Rain is not uniform in time and space in semiarid areas and its distribution is very important for the runoff process. Hydrological studies usually divide rainfall into events. However, defining rain events is complicated, and rain characteristics vary depending on how the events are delimited. Choosing a minimum inter-event time (MIT) is a commonly used criterion. Our hypothesis is that there will be an optimal MIT that explains the maximum part of the variance of the runoff, with time to runoff used as a surrogate. The objective is to establish a procedure in order to decide upon this optimal MIT. We developed regressions between time to runoff (T0) and three descriptive variable…

Numerical simulation of reciprocating turbulent flow in a plane channel

2009

Direct numerical simulation results were obtained for oscillatory flow with zero time mean (reciprocating flow) in a plane channel using a finite volume method, Crank-Nicolson time stepping and central approximation of the advection terms. A pressure gradient varying co-sinusoidally in time was imposed as the forcing term, and its frequency and amplitude were made to vary so as to span a range of regimes from purely laminar to fully turbulent. For the limiting cases of reciprocating laminar flow and steady-state turbulent flow, numerical results were validated against analytical solutions and classic experimental literature data, respectively. For general reciprocating flows, predictions we…

Liquid chromatography‐Orbitrap Tribrid high‐resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent‐tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentatio…

2021

A new, fast, and automatic approach has been applied for the tentative identification of unknown substances released by food contact epoxy resin after performing a migration test with food simulant. This approach combines intelligent data acquisition with AcquireX linked to liquid chromatography-Orbitrap Tribrid high-resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent-tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation coupled to Compound Discoverer™ software for automated data processing and compound identification. The identification of the observed features was performed using a set of identification criteria, including exact mass, isotope pattern, tandem mass spectrometry spectra mat…

Demethanization of aqueous anaerobic effluents using a polydimethylsiloxane membrane module: Mass transfer, fouling and feasibility

2017

Abstract The performance, fouling and feasibility of a polydimethylsiloxane hollow fibre membrane module for in situ methane degasification from the effluent of an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed anaerobic reactor has been investigated. Experiments at different operational conditions were carried out (liquid flow, sweep gas flow and vacuum pressure) with maximum removal efficiency (77%) at lowest flow-rate (0.4 L h−1), highest vacuum gauge pressure (−800 mbar) and liquid flowing in lumen side. Mass transport analysis denoted a considerably higher methane transfer than that predicted (attributed to liquid oversaturation). An enhancement factor for liquid phase has been proposed to correlate the…

Nonrecursive multiple shock formation via four-wave mixing: theory and experiment

2002

We show theoretically and experimentally that a beat signal propagating along a normally dispersive fiber can trigger the formation of multiple shocks. This phenomenon critically depends on the input frequency separation and power of the beat signal.

Role of the bridge in photoinduced electron transfer in porphyrin-fullerene dyads.

2015

The role of π-conjugated molecular bridges in through-space and through-bond electron transfer is studied by comparing two porphyrin-fullerene donor-acceptor (D-A) dyads. One dyad, ZnP-Ph-C60 (ZnP = zinc porphyrin), incorporates a phenyl bridge between D and A and behaves very similarly to analogous dyads studied previously. The second dyad, ZnP-EDOTV-C60, introduces an additional 3,4-ethylenedioxythienylvinylene (EDOTV) unit into the conjugated bridge, which increases the distance between D and A, but, at the same time, provides increased electronic communication between them. Two essential outcomes that result from the introduction of the EDOTV unit in the bridge are as follows: 1) faster…

Comparison of extraction and clean-up procedures for analysis of zearalenone in corn, rice and wheat grains by high-performance liquid chromatography…

2002

The aim of this work was the optimization of some procedures usually used in the analysis of zearalenone (ZEA) in corn and other cereals by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with photodiode array and/or fluorescence detection. The comparison of five extraction solvents is presented. Three solid-phase extraction cartridges (C-18, silica, Florisil) and immuno-affinity columns were also compared to obtain the best recovery of the mycotoxin with the minimal presence of co-extractives in the chromatograms. Mixtures of methanol-1% aqueous NaCl (80.20 or 60:40 v/v) were the best extraction solvents. Florisil provided higher recovery of ZEA than C-18, and silica proved unsuitable. The i…

Separation of pesticides, related compounds, polychlorobiphenyls and other pollutants into four groups by silica‐gel microcolumn chromatography (appl…

1991

Multi‐residue analyses of pesticides and related compounds generally require clean‐up procedures for the elimination of interfering substances. An analytical procedure for use in the recovery and determination of pesticides and other pollutants in water samples is described, in which the purification of the extracts is improved by the separation of pesticides into four groups. The separation of pesticides by silica‐gel microcolumn chromatography is explained in detail. Copyright © 1991 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Gelchromatographie, die möglichkeiten verschiedener trennmaterialien

1968

Organic and…

Female survivors’ experiences of authorities’ actions in cases of partner stalking

2020

Previous studies have shown that civil authorities fail to understand the nature of stalking and the harmful consequences it causes victims. The aim of this study was to investigate how the victims of partner stalking had perceived the actions of civil authorities and the stalking investigation process. The data were drawn from conversations among members of an internet-based peer support group for female victims of partner stalking. We identified four main categories of victims’ experiences pertaining to authorities’ actions and the investigation process: authorities’ problems in dealing with stalking, dissatisfaction with the investigation process, trust in the authorities and expectation…
