Epps et al. (2013) derived Curve Number (CN) values for two forested headwater watersheds in the Lower Coastal Plain of South Carolina during the 2008-2011 period from rainfall-runoff data, resulting in 23 events for the Upper Debidue Creek (UDC) watershed and in 20 events for Watershed 80 (WS80). D’Asaro and Grillone analyzed the P, CN data of the UDC watershed finding an evident “complacent” behavior, characterized by a declining CN with increasing P but without approaching a stable value at large storms. The book Maifinito featured essays, projects, and a selection of “international artistic, social and architectural experiences,” all of which centered around the “fenomeno del maifinito,”1 the maifinito phenomenon—in other words, the enormous number of unfinished buildings in southern Italy, and especially on the island of Sicily. Many of these buildings, so-called maifiniti, have been constructed entirely outside the legislative framework—a phenomenon that perfectly encapsulates the relationship in Italy between construction, the public vs. private realm, the state, and legislation. In December 2015, Arno Brandlhuber met Isabella Fera in Palermo for a wide-ranging discussion.

La questione dell’abusivismo edilizio in Sicilia si può leggere come parte di un fenomeno più vasto, quello di una espansione poco programmata e costituita da una grande quantità di edifici costruiti prevalentemente a uso residenziale, tra gli anni ‘60 e ’80, da piccoli imprenditori o da privati, e che hanno dato vita a parti di città dimensionalmente rilevanti.
