Aportaciones al conocimiento de los mosquitos (Diptera, Culicidae) de alta montaña presentes en la Península Ibérica

Several larval samplings of mosquitoes (Diptera, Culicidae) in different mountainous regions of the peninsular Spain were carried out. A total of 2796 specimens belonging to 18 species were collected, nevertheless the 72.5 % of these finds includes only three of them (Cx. hortensis hortensis, Cx. pipiens and Cs. longiareolata). The adaptation capacity to a varied typology of water bodies together with the marked multivoltinism that characterizes their biotic cycles are postulated as two of the principal reasons that explain their abundances. The altitudinal distribution as well as some information about the bioecology of all the species captured are also exposed.

A new species within the Centaurea busambarensis complex (Asteraceae, Cardueae) from Sicily

The Centaurea busambarensis group is made up by eight species endemic to Sicily. We statistically evaluated a population found on the Nebrodi Mountain (NE Sicily) to verify if the observed morphological differences with the already known taxa justified the description of a new one. It resulted in being sufficiently distinct to deserve recognition at the species level. Centaurea valdemonensis, a new species endemic to Sicily is described and illustrated here. This work is devoted to the study of diagnostic tools for categorical data models with an emphasis on the presence of continuous covariates. In particular, the aim is to define a new class of residuals from the parametric multinomial family of models and to study their asymptotics properties. In logistic regression (as in generalized linear models), there are a few different kinds of residuals; we propose a generalization of deviance residuals as defined in logistic regression to the multinomial case and propose their use in order to identify inadequacies in a multinomial model.
