Pētījuma mērķis bija salīdzināt Latvijas karavīru, kuri ir dienējuši Starptautiskajās operācijās, ugunsdzēsēju un policistu pašu novērtētos traumas simptomus, noskaidrot sakarības starp dažādiem traumatiskās pieredzes aspektiem un traumas simptomiem katras grupas ietvaros, salīdzināt iedzīvotāju, policistu un ugunsdzēsēju priekšstatus par psiholoģisko traumatismu augsta riska profesijās, kā arī noskaidrot, kas ir pašu uztvertie palīdzošie faktori ugunsdzēsēju un policistu vidū.
