A ride comfort tyre model for off-highway vehicles
2014
Tyre modelling is a major challenge when using time domain multibody simulation models to evaluate ride comfort on off-highway commercial vehicles. Further, parameters for these big tyres are difficult to obtain and thus, commercial car tyre models are difficult to apply. In this research work, a simple vertical tyre model for off-highway ride comfort evaluation is suggested. A displaced volume approach has been developed and combined with the slip theory to yield a tyre model that can be characterised by only three parameters. Full scale measurements on a dump truck have been carried out. Force responses from measurements are compared to the simulation results. Acceleration responses and t…
The Constraints of Vehicle Range and Congestion for the Use of Electric Vehicles for Urban Freight in France
2015
The 9th International Conference on City Logistics, Tenerife, Espagne, 17-/06/2015 - 19/06/2015; Electric vehicle is a solution to reduce pollutant emissions from road urban freight. This paper assesses the potential CO2 reduction by transferring urban freight from diesel to electric vehicles while simultaneously looking at the two main technical constraints: electric vehicle range and the impact on congestion linked to change diesel heavy duty vehicles (with a load up to 25 tons) to much smaller electric vehicles. The data used has been computed from a survey (ECHO) that describes in details a very large sample of French shipments. Two scenarios were set up, which differ mainly by the type…
A Cost-Effective Approach to Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation
2012
This paper presents an approach for developing cost effective hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation platforms for the use in controller software test and development. The approach is aimed at the many smaller manufacturers of e.g. mobile hydraulic machinery, which often do not have very advanced testing facilities at their disposal. A case study is presented where a HIL simulation platform is developed for the controller of a truck mounted loader crane. The total expenses in hardware and software is less than 10.000$.
The Multi-period Multi-trip Container Drayage Problem with Release and Due Dates
2021
Abstract The Container Drayage Problem (CDP) aims at routing a fleet of trucks, based at a common terminal, to serve customers while minimizing the total travel distance. Each trip starts from and ends at the terminal, and handles a subset of customers. Each customer requires either that a container is picked up or delivered. We introduce a more realistic variant, i.e., the Multi-trip Multi-period CDP with Release and Due Dates (MM-CDP-RDD), in which the planning horizon is composed of several periods (days). On each day, each truck may perform more than one trip respecting the Release and Due Dates (RDD) associated with customer services, corresponding to the first and the last day on whic…
Driver Situation Awareness and Perceived Sleepiness during Truck Platoon Driving–Insights from Eye-tracking Data
2021
Truck platoon driving technology uses vehicle-to-vehicle communication to allow one truck to follow another in an automated fashion. The first vehicle is operated manually, the second vehicle is dr...
High-accuracy approximation of piecewise smooth functions using the Truncation and Encode approach
2017
Abstract In the present work, we analyze a technique designed by Geraci et al. in [1,11] named the Truncate and Encode (TE) strategy. It was presented as a non-intrusive method for steady and non-steady Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in Uncertainty Quantification (UQ), and as a weakly intrusive method in the unsteady case. We analyze the TE algorithm applied to the approximation of functions, and in particular its performance for piecewise smooth functions. We carry out some numerical experiments, comparing the performance of the algorithm when using different linear and non-linear interpolation techniques and provide some recommendations that we find useful in order to achieve a hig…
Evaluating objective measures of impairment to trunk strength and control for cross-country sit skiing
2021
AbstractIn Paralympic cross-country sit skiing, athlete classification is performed by an expert panel, so it may be affected by subjectivity. An evidence-based classification is required, in which objective measures of impairment must be identified. The purposes of this study were: (i) to evaluate the reliability of 5 trunk strength measures and 18 trunk control measures developed for the purposes of classification; (ii) to rank the objective measures, according to the largest effects on performance. Using a new testing device, 14 elite sit-skiers performed two upright seated press tests and one simulated poling test to evaluate trunk strength. They were also subjected to unpredictable bal…
In vitro and in vivo antileishmanial and trypanocidal studies of new N-benzene- and N-naphthalenesulfonamide derivatives.
2013
We report in vivo and in vitro antileishmanial and trypanocidal activities of a new series of N-substituted benzene and naphthalenesulfonamides 1-15. Compounds 1-15 were screened in vitro against Leishmania infantum , Leishmania braziliensis , Leishmania guyanensis , Leishmania amazonensis , and Trypanosoma cruzi . Sulfonamides 6e, 10b, and 10d displayed remarkable activity and selectivity toward T. cruzi epimastigotes and amastigotes. 6e showed significant trypanocidal activity on parasitemia in a murine model of acute Chagas disease. Moreover, 6e, 8c, 9c, 12c, and 14d displayed interesting IC50 values against Leishmania spp promastigotes as well as L. amazonensis and L. infantum amastigot…
Inhibitor-Induced Dimerization of an Essential Oxidoreductase from African Trypanosomes
2018
Trypanosomal and leishmanial infections claim tens of thousands of lives each year. The metabolism of these unicellular eukaryotic parasites differs from the human host and their enzymes thus constitute promising drug targets. Tryparedoxin (Tpx) from Trypanosoma brucei is the essential oxidoreductase in the parasite's hydroperoxide-clearance cascade. In vitro and in vivo functional assays show that a small, selective inhibitor efficiently inhibits Tpx. With X-ray crystallography, SAXS, analytical SEC, SEC-MALS, MD simulations, ITC, and NMR spectroscopy, we show how covalent binding of this monofunctional inhibitor leads to Tpx dimerization. Intra- and intermolecular inhibitor-inhibitor, pro…
Theoretical study of the interaction between sodium ion and a cyclopeptidic tubular structure.
2007
DFT calculations have been carried out to describe the pathway of a sodium ion along the stacking direction of a tubular structure set up by five cyclopeptidic units, which can be considered a suitable model of a hollow tubular structure of indefinite length. A lattice of points inside the tubular structure is defined and the DFT interaction energy values with a sodium ion are obtained. The data allow predicting a zigzag path of the ion inside the hosting structure. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comput Chem, 2007
