Nanodevices by DNA based gold nanostructures

2017

In this thesis DNA based structures were utilized to create gold nanostructures for nanosensing and nanoelectronic applications. In the past, both of these fields have been dominated by the conventional lithography methods, e.g., electron beam lithography and UV-lithography, but more recently scaling down the components by these techniques has become increasingly more complex and costly. Especially in the micro- and nanoelectronics, the increase in the component density and thus computational power would require fabrication of sub-10-nm components, which is challenging for the top-down approaches. Aforementioned developments have led researchers to seek alternative methods to fabricate these…

Histologic analysis of specimens from laparoscopic endometrioma excision performed by different surgeons: does the surgeon matter?

2011

Objective To evaluate whether the amount of ovarian tissue inadvertently removed along with the endometrioma cyst wall at laparoscopy differs in relation to the operating surgeon's level of expertise. Design Multicenter, prospective trial. Setting Four tertiary care university hospitals. Patient(s) Fifty patients, aged 25 to 40 years, with monolateral ovarian endometriomas who underwent laparoscopic excision. Intervention(s) Operation with the stripping technique by surgeons with specific expertise in endometriosis surgery in four centers (groups A, B, C, and D) and by residents with average training in laparoscopic surgery (group E). Main Outcome Measure(s) Histologic examination for the e…

Single-Center Retrospective Series of Intracranial Aneurysms Treated with the Barricade Coil System: Immediate and Six-Month Results

2020

Abstract Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are most commonly found at the branch points of large arteries that form the circle of Willis. The prevalence of IAs in the adult population is 1–5%. IAs rupture is associated with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) in 6–8 cases per 100 000 population, causing mortality in 40–50%. Aneurysm treatment is used to prevent rupture or rebleeding (for ruptured IAs). Randomised trials demonstrated the superiority of endovascular treatment (EVT) of ruptured aneurysms with coil systems over surgery. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Barricade coil system in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Detachable platinum coils, since the…

Through space singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet energy transfers in cofacial bisporphyrins held by the carbazoyl spacer

2007

The through space singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet energy transfers in cofacial bis(etio-porphyrins) rigidly held by the carbazoyl spacer were investigated. The studies on singlet-singlet transfer, which operates via a Förster mechanism, were performed using the zinc porphyrin and free base chromophores as energy donor and acceptor, respectively, while the investigation on triplet-triplet processes was performed using the palladium porphyrin, and the zinc porphyrin and free base chromophores as donor and acceptors, respectively. The rate for singlet-singlet transfer ( k ET ( singlet )) is unexpectedly slower than that reported for other similar, rigidly held bisporphyrins such as H 2( D…

Up-conversion and Photoluminescence in Er3+ Single Crystal MgAl-spinel

2015

Abstract Traditional and up-conversion luminescence of MgAl 2 O 4 single crystal doped with erbium ions obtained by the Verneuil method has been investigated. The time resolved spectral measurements of the green and red up-conversion luminescence bands show that a build-up part is present in the up-conversion luminescence kinetics. This means that energy transfer process is involved in the creation of the luminescence. Considering rather small concentration of Er 3+ in the material (0.12 mass %), the expected up-conversion mechanism should be excited state absorption since the average distance between erbium ions is high. The above-mentioned considerations suggest that clustering of the act…

QCD resummation effects in forward $J/\psi$ and very backward jet inclusive production at the LHC

2017

We propose and study the inclusive production of a forward $J/\psi$ and a very backward jet at the LHC as an observable to reveal high-energy resummation effects \`a la BFKL. Our different predictions are based on the various existing mechanisms to describe the production of the $J/\psi$, namely, NRQCD singlet and octet contributions, and the color evaporation model.

Usability in ERP (Single and Multiple Document Interface) Application Environments

2014

The usability of complex information systems, like enterprise resource planning (ERP), is the next frontier, as the trend becomes more and more adopted in the industrial working environment. In complex information systems, the traditional usability criteria of learnability, effectiveness and efficiency have never lost their importance, even though the focus of research appears to have shifted for the consumer product. This study based on 110 responses attempt to highlight the usability issues in ERP single document interface (SDI) and multiple document interface (MDI) application environments. It also investigates the effect of negative user experience, such as ‘confusion’, on learnability,…

An implicit mesh discontinuous Galerkin formulation for higher-order plate theories

2019

In this work, a discontinuous Galerkin formulation for higher-order plate theories is presented. The starting point of the formulation is the strong form of the governing equations, which are derived in the context of the Generalized Unified Formulation and the Equivalent Single Layer approach from the Principle of Virtual Displacements. To express the problem within the discontinuous Galerkin framework, an auxiliary flux variable is introduced and the governing equations are rewritten as a system of first-order partial differential equations, which are weakly stated over each mesh element. The link among neighboring mesh elements is then retrieved by introducing suitably defined numerical …
