Differential effects of hypothermia on neuronal efflux, release and uptake of noradrenaline

Isolated rabbit hearts were perfused at 34° (control), 24° or 12°C. The neuronal efflux of noradrenaline after perfusion with the amine for 1 h was depressed at 24° C (Q 10 about 5) in the presence or absence of desipramine; at 12°C the efflux was below the limit of estimation. Moderate reduction of the temperature (24° C) decreased the removal of perfused noradrenaline to about 60% of the control value and caused a 1.7-fold increase of the output of noradrenaline evoked by sympathetic nerve stimulation. It is concluded that the extremely temperature-dependent efflux of noradrenaline across the axonal membrane is not part of the release of noradrenaline evoked by nerve stimulation.

The role of the substantia nigra on the rage reaction elicited by hypothalamic stimulation, in the cat.

The effects of substantia nigra stimulation on the rage reaction evoked by hypothalamic activation were studied. The reference value of the rage reaction was the latency of the hissing, which was constant in all animals when hypothalamic stimulation was performed with the same parameters. Simultaneous activation of substantia nigra and hypothalamus determined a significant decrease in hissing latency. The influence of the substantia nigra on the affective components of the aggressive behavior is underlined.

The behavioural responsiveness to picrotoxin and desipramine was investigated in adult rats prenatally exposed to different benzodiazepine receptor agonists such as diazepam, alprazolam and zolpidem. Prenatal exposure to diazepam and alprazolam similarly potentiated the anti-immobility effect on the forced swimming test and the inhibitory effect on spontaneous motor activity of picrotoxin and desipramine and increased the seizure sensitivity to picrotoxin. Prenatal zolpidem seems to be ineffective. Within this work the effect of the B content on the microstructure, phase composition and mechanical properties of CVD Ti(B,N) coatings is investigated. Ti(B,N) coatings with B contents from 0 (fcc-TiN) to ∼5, ∼15, ∼30, ∼45 and 66 (h-TiB2) at.% have been deposited by CVD. The elemental composition of the coatings was confirmed by ERDA and their microstructure was investigated using XRD and SEM. With increasing B content, a transition from a fcc to a h-dominated structure via dual-phase fcc/h-Ti(B,N) was observed, which was accompanied by a decreasing grain size from the µm to nm range.
