Synthesis and characterization of redox-sensitive polyurethanes based on L-glutathione oxidized and poly(ether ester) triblock copolymers
2021
Abstract Segmented polyurethanes, based on PCL-PEG-PCL copolymers, 1,4-diisocyanatobutane and l -glutathione oxidized, used as chain extender, were synthetized. Three different reactions conditions were investigated using three different copolymers having ɛ-CL/polyethylene glycol molar ratios equal to 12, 24 and 36 and three different reaction conditions. As investigated by size exclusion chromatography analyses and quantification of l -glutathione, the polymerization and the extension phase's efficiency depended on the ɛ-CL/PEG ratio and the extension phase's operating temperature. Three selected polyurethanes were characterized by spectroscopic, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and…
Chapter 8 Native and Bonded Silicas in Aqueous Sec
1988
Publisher Summary This chapter deals with the properties of packings and columns in correlation to chromatographic separations in size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and provides guidelines for optimum support design. The chapter provides a survey of the current state-of-the-art with respect to the surface modification of silica for SEC packings in aqueous eluents. The properties of commercial packings and columns are listed and compared. An advice is also discussed on the operation and maintenance of columns with a view to achieving high resolution and long life-time. In SEC, solute elution is based on equilibrium, entropy-controlled size exclusion process. According to their size, the so…
Impact of Branching on the Solution Behavior and Serum Stability of Starlike Block Copolymers.
2019
The size control of nanomedicines for tumor diagnosis and therapy is of high importance, since it enables or disables deep and sufficient tumor penetration. Amphiphilic star-shaped block copolypept(o)ides offer substantial promise to precisely adjust the hydrophobic core and the hydrophilic corona, independent of each other, and therefore simultaneously control the size dimension in the interesting size range from 10 to 30 nm. To gain access to core-shell structures of such sizes, 3-arm and 6-arm PeptoStars, based on poly(gamma-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-L-glutamate)-b-polysarcosine (pGlu(OtBu)-b-pSar), were prepared via controlled living ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of the corresponding N-…
Metaproteomic analysis of atmospheric aerosol samples.
2016
Metaproteomic analysis of air particulate matter provides information about the abundance and properties of bioaerosols in the atmosphere and their influence on climate and public health. We developed and applied efficient methods for the extraction and analysis of proteins from glass fiber filter samples of total, coarse, and fine particulate matter. Size exclusion chromatography was applied to remove matrix components, and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) was applied for protein fractionation according to molecular size, followed by in-gel digestion and LC-MS/MS analysis of peptides using a hybrid Quadrupole-Orbitrap MS. Maxquant software and the Swiss-…
Triple-target stimuli-responsive anti-COVID-19 face mask with physiological virus-inactivating agents
2021
Conventional face masks to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission are mostly based on a passive filtration principle. Ideally, anti-COVID-19 masks should protect the carrier not only by size exclusion of virus aerosol particles, but also be able to capture and destroy or inactivate the virus. Here we present the proof-of-concept of a filter mat for such a mask, which actively attracts aerosol droplets and kills the virus. The electrospun mats are made of polycaprolactone (PCL) a hydrophilic, functionalizable and biodegradable polyester, into which inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) a physiological biocompatible, biodegradable and antivirally active polymer (chain length, ∼40 Pi units) has been integr…
Phase Distribution Chromatography (PDC) of Polystyrene
1971
Abstract Phase distribution chromatography is a new chromatographic method of fractionating polymers. The separation is achieved by partitioning the sample between the solvent and a polymer phase, in the case a noncross-linked polystyrene of very high molecular weight, which is coated as a thin layer on small glass beads. The temperature must be held below the θ-temperature of the sample. The separation increases sharply with decreasing temperature. The theory of this method is presented and compared with experimental results. The agreement is very good.
Dihydroisocoumarins, Naphthalenes, and Further Polyketides from Aloe vera and A. plicatilis: Isolation, Identification and Their 5-LOX/COX-1 Inhibiti…
2021
The present study aims at the isolation and identification of diverse phenolic polyketides from Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. and Aloe plicatilis (L.) Miller and includes their 5-LOX/COX-1 inhibiting potency. After initial Sephadex-LH20 gel filtration and combined silica gel 60- and RP18-CC, three dihydroisocoumarins (nonaketides), four 5-methyl-8-C-glucosylchromones (heptaketides) from A. vera, and two hexaketide-naphthalenes from A. plicatilis have been isolated by means of HSCCC. The structures of all polyketides were elucidated by ESI-MS and 2D 1H/13C-NMR (HMQC, HMBC) techniques. The analytical/preparative separation of 3R-feralolide, 3′-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl- and the new 6-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl…
The Generation Effect: Cavity Accessibility in Dense‐Shell Polyphenylene Dendrimers
2014
Size exclusion is a widespread phenomenon in supra- and macromolecular chemistry. Herein, the size exclusion properties of polyphenylene dendrimers on the surface of high fundamental frequency quartz crystal microbalances are reported. For this purpose, a new dense fifth-generation polyphenylene dendrimer, which was previously not possible owing to the high steric demand of the dendron arms, was synthesized. By increasing the volume and size of subjected analytes an affinity shift from smaller to larger dendrimers can be obtained.
Continuous spin fractionation and characterization by size-exclusion chromatography for styrene-butadiene block copolymers.
2005
Abstract Linear and star-shaped styrene–butadiene block copolymers synthesized by anionic polymerization of butadiene and styrene were fractionated by applying a newly developed large-scale fractionation technique, named continuous spin fractionation (CSF). Their molecular weight and polydispersity index ( d = M w / M n ) were measured with size-exclusion chromatography and static light scattering. For the linear triblock copolymer a fractionation via temperature variation turned out to be better suited than the usual isothermal procedure. The star-shaped polymer with the d value of 1.33 was fractionated in two CSF steps to get the targeted sample, which has a considerably more uniform st…
Polyphenoloxidase from Riesling and Dornfelder wine grapes (Vitis vinifera) is a tyrosinase.
2015
Abstract Polyphenoloxidases (PPO) of the type-3 copper protein family are considered to be catecholoxidases catalyzing the oxidation of o-diphenols to their corresponding quinones. PPO from Grenache grapes has recently been reported to display only diphenolase activity. In contrast, we have characterized PPOs from Dornfelder and Riesling grapes which display both monophenolase and diphenolase activity. Ultracentrifugation and size exclusion chromatography indicated that both PPOs occur as monomers with Mr of about 38 kDa. Non-reducing SDS–PAGE shows two bands of about 38 kDa exhibiting strong activity. Remarkably, three bands up to 60 kDa displayed only very weak PPO activity, supporting th…
