NANOPARTICLES BASED ON NOVEL AMPHIPHILIC POLYASPARTAMIDE COPOLYMERS

2010

In this article, the synthesis of two amphiphilic polyaspartamide copolymers, useful to obtain polymeric nanoparticles without using surfactants or stabilizing agents, is described. These copolymers were obtained starting from α,β-poly-(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) by following a novel synthetic strategy. In particular, PHEA and its pegylated derivative (PHEA-PEG2000) were functionalized with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) through 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) activation to obtain PHEA–PLA and PHEA-PEG2000–PLA graft copolymers, respectively. These copolymers were properly purified and characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR, and Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) analyses, which confirmed that…

Comparative evaluation of the swelling and degrees of cross-linking in three organic gel packings for SEC through some geometric parameters.

2003

Abstract The size exclusion chromatographic (SEC) behavior of five solvent/polymer systems in three organic column packings based on polystyrene/divinylbenzene (PS/DVB) copolymer, TSK-Gel H HR , μ-styragel and TSK-Gel H XL , has been compared. All the packings offer similar characteristics (pore size, particle size and efficiency) but some differences have been found when eluting the same systems. The different elution behavior observed in both polymeric gels has been analyzed in terms of their swelling and cross-linking degrees and of the fractal parameters. From the Universal Calibration plots, values of the chromatographic partition coefficient, K p , have been obtained and using some eq…

Characterization of Chemical Composition along the Molar Mass Distribution in Polyolefin Copolymers by GPC Using a Modern Filter-Based IR Detector

2013

Summary Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), also known as size exclusion chromatography (SEC), is the technique routinely used at high temperature to analyze the molar mass distribution in polyolefins. The distribution of comonomer along the molar mass distribution in a copolymer is a key microstructural feature that determines the macroscopic properties of the material, and thus, its range of possible applications and performance. The direct coupling of a modern filter-based infrared (IR) detector to a high temperature GPC instrument, by means of a heated flow-through cell, is here described. The analyses are carried out by recording the continuous IR absorbance chromatograms at selected …

High molecular arborescent polyoxyethylene with hydroxyl containing shell

2004

Abstract Arborescent polyoxyethylene of high molar mass (2×10 5  g/mol) and narrow molar mass distribution was synthesized in a three-stage process. In the first stage a triblock copolymer of ethylene oxide (central block, DP ca. 90) and 2,3-epoxypropanol-1 (short flanking blocks, DP ca. 5) was synthesized. The potassium alcoholate derived from this copolymer was used to initiate the polymerization of ethylene oxide and the subsequent addition of protected glycidol (1-etoxyethyl glycidyl ether). After deprotection the short polyglycidol blocks were used as branching units for the next generation. Repeated step by step process leads to the ‘pom-pom like’ branched polyoxyethylene macromolecul…

Rapid one-pot synthesis of tapered star copolymers via ultra-fast coupling of polystyryllithium chain ends

2019

Highly efficient stoichiometric coupling of sterically hindered polystyryllithium (PS-Li) chain ends was achieved using tetra[3-(chloro-dimethylsilyl)propyl]silane (TCDMSPS) as the linking agent. Based on the disparate reactivities of isoprene (I, rI = 11.0) and styrene (S, rS = 0.049) in the anionic copolymerization in nonpolar media, poly(isoprene0.5-grad-styrene0.5) (P(I0.5-grad-S0.5)) tapered 4-arm star copolymers were synthesized in only two steps. The tapered 4-arm star copolymers (Mtargetedw = 40 to 160 kg mol−1) were synthesized with high star functionalities f (Mw,star/Mw,arm = 3.68–3.98), low dispersity (Đ = 1.06–1.15) and minimal residual precursor content (2–8 wt%), avoiding fra…

Synthesis of Amphiphilic Block Copolypept(o)ides by Bifunctional Initiators: Making PeptoMicelles Redox Sensitive.

2015

In this work, the synthesis of polypeptoid-block-polypeptide copolymers (block copolypept(o)ides) based on bifunctional initiators is described, which introduces a distinct chemical entity at the connection between both blocks. With a view towards redox-sensitive block copolypept(o)ides, a cystamine-based initiator was used to synthesize polysarcosine macroinitiators with degrees of polymerization (Xn) between 100 and 200 displaying monomodal molecular weight distributions and dispersities (Đ) around 1.1 as determined by size exclusion chromatography. Block copolypept(o)ides with a poly(γ-t-butyloxycarbonyl-L-glutamate) (PGlu(O(t) Bu)) block (Xn = 25 or 50) were synthesized by controlled N-…

Fluorescent Carbon Nanodots as Sensors of Toxic Metal Ions and Pesticides

2021

Carbon nanodots (CDs) are a new class of fluorescent carbon-based nanomaterials characterized by a plethora of morphologies and sizes. Among these, we can include two different types of CDs, namely, graphitic and diamond-like. This wide range of structures opens up the possibility to design different CDs, with tunable optical properties accordingly to the synthesis method and precursors used. We prepared two different CDs following a bottom-up approach by thermally induced decomposition of organic precursors (namely, citric acid and urea in different molar ratios), and using purification by Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC). Obtained CDs were characterized by Raman, absorption and fluores…

Pore structural characteristics, size exclusion properties and column performance of two mesoporous amorphous silicas and their pseudomorphically tra…

2007

Highly ordered mesoporous silicas such as, mobile composition of matter, MCM-41, MCM-48, and the SBA-types of materials have helped to a large extent to understand the formation mechanisms of the pore structure of adsorbents and to improve the methods of pore structural characterization. It still remains an open question whether the high order, the regularity of the pore system, and the narrow pore size distribution of the materials will lead to a substantial benefit when these materials are employed in liquid phase separation processes. MCM-41 type 10 microm beads are synthesized following the route of pseudomorphic transformation of highly porous amorphous silicas. Highly porous silicas a…

Evaluation of a Multidimensional Solid-Phase Extraction Platform for Highly Selective On-Line Cleanup and High-Throughput LC−MS Analysis of Triazines…

2001

A novel highly selective sample cleanup procedure based on the use of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as solid-phase extraction materials has been evaluated with respect to its applicability and routine use in environmental analysis. The method comprises the combination of a restricted access material (RAM) and a MIP allowing a selective sample preparation to be achieved in the online mode. This combination is called the size-selective sample separation and solvent switch (six-SPE). The RAM column combines size exclusion and adsorption chromatography, reducing the concentration of matrix molecules by a cutoff of 15 kDa. The MIP column selectively retains the triazine analytes whereas …
