Stick-slip motion and plastic flow of a two-dimensional colloidal crystal confined to moving corrugated rigid boundaries

Computer simulations are presented where a model for a two-dimensional colloidal crystal confined to corrugated walls is exposed to a steady-state shear deformation. Following up on an earlier study, where average velocity profiles of the particles in the crystal across the slit have been obtained, we now analyse the time dependence of the particle motions and of the resulting shear forces. We discuss the extent to which the resulting irregular and damped oscillatory motions can be associated with stick-slip motions familiar from friction phenomena.

Prevalence and characterization of maxillary sinus septa in a brazilian population

Background The aim of this study was to assess the anatomic aspects of the maxillary sinus septa, by means of computed tomography images, in a Brazilian population. The results might be of clinical significance in sinus lift surgery planning. Material and methods In the study, 123 computed tomographs obtained from a private radiology clinic were used. They were analyzed by a single, trained and calibrated observer in order to evaluate the presence, quantity, localizations, dimensions, orientations and different characteristics in dentate, partially edentulous and completely edentulous individuals of the sinus septa. The main topic of this research was to evaluate the effect in the performance of stochastic landslide susceptibility models, produced by differences between the triggering events of the calibration and validation datasets. Darbā veikts elementu salīdzinājums priežu un egļu skujās starp paraugiem, kuri tika apstrādāti ar arginīna fosfātu saturošu minerālmēslojumu sešu mēnešu ilgā augšanas periodā. Paraugu analīzēm izmantota induktīvi saistītās masspektometrijas un rezultāti apstrādāti ar galveno komponentu analīzes metodi. Paraugu priekšapstrāde veikta, izmantojot slapjās mineralizācijas metodi ar skābju maisījumu.
