Back-Propagation Artificial Neural Network for ERP Adoption Cost Estimation
2011
Published version of a chapter in the book: Enterprise information systems, vol 220, part 2, 180-187. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-24355-4_19 Small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) are greatly affected by cost escalations and overruns Reliable cost factors estimation and management is a key for the success of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems adoptions in enterprises generally and SMEs specifically. This research area is still immature and needs a considerable amount of research to seek solid and realistic cost factors estimation. Majority of research in this area targets the enhancement of estimates calculated by COCOMO family models.…

Availability of alternative financial resources for SMES as a critical part of the entrepreneurial eco-system: Latvia and Italy
2015
Abstract The importance of non-traditional alternative/innovative financing is gaining recognition in both developed and emerging economies throughout the world (OECD, 2012; EC, 2013; ECB, 2013; ECB, 2014). SME financing in Europe remains primarily bank based, in spite of the many policies proposed to develop alternative financing instruments (e.g. adopting directives on venture capital, improving the transparency and visibility of SMEs on capital markets, etc.) The paper aims at understanding the availability of alternative resources for SMEs by analyzing them rigorously, understanding the obstacles for the development of non-bank finance and developing recommendations to overcome them. Th…
Alternative Financing of SMEs in the Baltic States: Myth or Reality?
2014
Abstract Alternative financing for small business can help companies whose owners can’t get traditional financing resources as small business loans, overdrafts and personal credit cards. New companies typically seek alternative financing when their companies have not been in business long enough to establish credit profiles with financial institutions. Access to alternative financing together with traditional financial resources represents one of the most significant challenges for new SMEs not only in the Baltic States but all over the world. Ensurance of new SMEs creation, existence and growth asks understanding of SMEs’ financing needs and alternative funding is one of them. Alternative …
Exports of Spanish manufacturing firms and financial constraints
2020
We investigate the role of financial constraints on firms’ exporting behavior, including firms’ export decision, export intensity, firms starting to export decision, and exports persistence. Our financial constraints variable is a synthetic variable that summarizes information on different dimensions such as total assets, profitability, liquidity, solvency, repaying ability, and (new in this type of analyses) the cost of external financing. Using data on Spanish manufacturing for the period 1992–2014, we find evidence supporting that financial health is relevant to explain small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exporting decisions and starting to export decisions but not those of large …
Extracellular histones trigger oxidative stress-dependent induction of the NF-kB/CAM pathway via TLR4 in endothelial cells.
2022
Abstract Extracellular histones have been reported to aggravate different pathophysiological processes by increasing vascular permeability, coagulopathy, and inflammation. In the present study, we elucidate how extracellular histones (10–100 µg/mL) concentration dependently increase cytosolic reactive oxygen species (ROS) production using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Furthermore, we identify cyclooxygenase (COX) and NADPH oxidase (NOX) activity as sources of ROS production in extracellular histone-treated HUVEC. This COX/NOX-mediated ROS production is also involved in enhanced NF-kB activity and cell adhesion molecules (VCAM1 and ICAM1) expression in histone-treated HUVE…

2022
Kvalifikācijas darba temats: Vecākā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu pašvadītas mācīšanās prasmju attīstība fizisko aktivitāšu un veselības jomā. Darba autore: Marina Ābele Zinātniskais vadītājs: Ilvis Ābeļkalns Kvalifikācijas darbs izstrādāts ar mērķi teorētiski analizēt un praktiski aprobēt vecākā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu pašvadītas mācīšanās veicināšanas iespējas fiziskās aktivitātes un veselības jomā. Kvalifikācijas darbs sastāv no divām daļām: •Teorētiskājā daļā apkopotas pedagogu un psihologu atziņas par pašvadītas mācīšanās prasmju attīstību fizisko aktivitāšu un veselības jomā. Teorētiskā daļa balstās uz J.Rinķa (2002); R. Fišera ( 2005); A.Vorobjova (2000); A. Šponas (2006); A. Šponas un I…
