Isometric embeddings of snowflakes into finite-dimensional Banach spaces

We consider a general notion of snowflake of a metric space by composing the distance by a nontrivial concave function. We prove that a snowflake of a metric space $X$ isometrically embeds into some finite-dimensional normed space if and only if $X$ is finite. In the case of power functions we give a uniform bound on the cardinality of $X$ depending only on the power exponent and the dimension of the vector space.

One-hundred and five 6- to 7-year-old children were given a test measuring their helplessness, failure expectations, task-irrelevant behaviour, lack of persistence and search for social support in a classroom setting in order to examine the impact of parental well-being and parenting styles on the children’s cognitive and behavioural strategies at school. Both parents were also asked to fill in scales measuring their depression, parenting stress and parenting styles. Abstract The aim of the study was to investigate whether children's achievement strategies would predict the development of their reading and mathematical skills during the first school year, or whether it is rather these skills that predict the changes in their achievement strategies. One-hundred and five 6- to 7-year-old children were examined three times during their first year of primary school: in each measurement, their self-reported achievement strategies were assessed, and their reading and mathematical skills were rated by their classroom teacher. Developing a stable personal identity is considered a more precarious task in today’s society than hitherto. Skilful digital engagement may, however, constitute a valuable asset in necessary identity exploration and commitment. Applying a person-oriented approach, we examined for the first time how identity profiles are associated with digital engagement, operationalized as digital competence, gaming seriousness, type of internet activity and excessive ICT use. W krótkim tekście przedstawiono dwa przypadki walki władz komunistycznych z instytucjami kościelnymi w Polsce Ludowej. Gdańskie przedszkole prowadzone przez siostry zakonne pod szyldem „państwowego Caritas” zostało zlikwidowane – podobnie jak wiele innych w całym kraju – bez podania jakiejkolwiek racjonalnej podstawy prawnej. Placówki prowadzone w ramach Zrzeszenia Katolików „Caritas” władze najwyraźniej uważały już za „swoje”. Przy okazji przejęcia placówek przejmowano prawie zawsze budynek będący własnością kościelną i zwalniano personel zakonny. En tales condiciones, ante la existencia de un tratamiento ilícito de aquellos, el agraviado está legitimado para exigir una indemnización por los daños y perjuicios que se hubieran podido originar en el marco transfronterizo. Public policy in families and successions regulations : the case of ?talaq?

According to EU Regulations on transnational families and successions, a foreign rule remains without effect if it is deemed contrary to the so-called public policy (ordre public) of the forum?s legal system. As a consequence, judges have to evaluate whether the application of foreign law is incompatible with fundamental principles of the domestic law, especially whether it would constitute a violation against human rights. An outstanding controversial issue is today represented by Islamic repudiation (talaq): two contrasting Italian judicial decisions of August 2020 may illustrate how difficult it could be to determine what public policy is.
