Amphiphilic Poly(organosiloxane) Nanospheres as Nanoreactors for the Synthesis of Topologically Trapped Gold, Silver, and Palladium Colloids
2003
Amphiphilic poly(organosiloxane) nanospheres with different core−shell architectures are employed as passive nanoreactors for the synthesis of noble metal colloids. The amphiphilic poly(organosiloxane) nanospheres, which have diameters between 15 and 40 nm, possess a hydrophilic interior and a hydrophobic shell. Dispersed in organic solvents such as toluene, it has been achieved to transfer hydrophilic noble metal salts through the solvent into the nanospheres by either liquid−liquid or solid−liquid phase transfer. Subsequently, reduction of the noble metal salt with lithium triethylborohydride led to the formation of 2−5 nm sized noble metal colloids. If the network density of the shell of…
Critical Micelle Concentration of Micelles with Different Geometries in Diblock Copolymer/Homopolymer Blends
2011
Summary In this paper, we have investigated the shape transition ofanisolatedmicelleformedintheAB-diblockcopolymerandA-homopolymer blends. SCFT has been employed tocompute the CMC for three different morphologies:lamellar, cylindrical and spherical. By comparing theCMC for different shapes, we can determine the preferredmicelle geometry. Several factors can influence the micellemorphology, andwehaveexploredtheeffectsofthediblockasymmetry, the homopolymer/copolymer length ratio andthe monomer–monomer interaction, on the micelle shapetransitions. It is found the micelle undergoes a sequenceof shape transitions, lamellar ! cylindrical ! spherical, when the A-block of the copolymer becomes longer.…
Effect of interfacial area on heterogeneous free radical grafting of vinyl monomers in supercritical carbon dioxide: Grafting of acrylic acid on poly…
2014
The role of the polymer interfacial area on free radical grafting of acrylic acid (AA) onto poly(vinylidenefluoride) (PVDF) was studied at 65°C using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as a solvent and swelling agent, benzoylperoxide (BPO) as chemical initiator and PVDF nanoparticles as polymer matrix. Under adopted conditions PVDF particles do not melt neither dissolve in the reaction medium and FTIR analyses performed on carefully washed nanoparticles confirmed the achievement of high grafting levels. The mass fraction of grafted AA increased with the grafting time and the BPO concentration while it decreased when the density of the fluid phase was enhanced. Collected results suggest th…
Effect of Polarity of Solvent on Silanization of Halloysite Nanoclay Using (3-Glycidyloxy propyl) Trimethoxy Silane
2021
Abstract: The grafting of silane groups on clay surfaces has been recently investigated in order to fabricate versatile compounds with new potential applications in materials science and ecological engineering. This work explored the influence of variety of solvents with variable polarity on the silanization of halloysite nanoclay (HNT) surface by (3-Glycidyloxy propyl) trimethoxy silane. To this purpose, the functionalization of HNT by 3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GOPTMS) has been conducted in Ethanol (polar protic solvent), Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Acetonitrile (polar aprotic solvents), and Hexane, 1,4-Dioxane and Toluene (non polar solvents). The silane grafted materials were ch…
Spherical polymer brushes under good solvent conditions: molecular dynamics results compared to density functional theory.
2010
A coarse grained model for flexible polymers end-grafted to repulsive spherical nanoparticles is studied for various chain lengths and grafting densities under good solvent conditions, by Molecular Dynamics methods and density functional theory. With increasing chain length the monomer density profile exhibits a crossover to the star polymer limit. The distribution of polymer ends and the linear dimensions of individual polymer chains are obtained, while the inhomogeneous stretching of the chains is characterized by the local persistence lengths. The results on the structure factor of both single chain and full spherical brush as well as the range of applicability of the different theoretic…
Process parameters of microsphere preparation based on propylene carbonate emulsion-precursors.
2020
This study aimed for a detailed understanding of the impact of different process parameters involved during celecoxib-loaded microsphere preparation based on propylene carbonate emulsion-precursors.Microspheres were prepared by a modified emulsification-solvent extraction method. Performed investigations included polymer solubility and viscosity, microsphere size, morphology and stability, propylene carbonate content as well as celecoxib solid state, content and release.Rough-walled round microspheres with sizes between 21 µm and 122 µm and an internal sponge-like structure filled with residual propylene carbonate (content between 1.9 ± 0.1% and 6.7 ± 0.5% w/w) were obtained. Encapsulation …
Influence of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) on PVA-Poly-N-hydroxyethyl-aspartamide (PVA-PHEA) Microcrystalline Solid Dispersion Films
2020
AbstractThis study was conducted to formulate buccal films consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and poly-N-hydroxyethyl-aspartamide (PHEA), to improve the dissolution of the drug through the oral mucosa. Ibuprofen sodium salt was used as a model drug, and the buccal film was expected to enhance its dissolution rate. Two different concentrations of PVA (5% w/v and 7.5% w/v) were used. Solvent casting was used to prepare films, where a solution consisting of drug and polymer was cast and allowed to dry. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the pr…
Rapid Production of Internally Structured Colloids by Flash Nanoprecipitation of Block Copolymer Blends.
2018
Colloids with internally structured geometries have shown great promise in applications ranging from biosensors to optics to drug delivery, where the internal particle structure is paramount to performance. The growing demand for such nanomaterials necessitates the development of a scalable processing platform for their production. Flash nanoprecipitation (FNP), a rapid and inherently scalable colloid precipitation technology, is used to prepare internally structured colloids from blends of block copolymers and homopolymers. As revealed by a combination of experiments and simulations, colloids prepared from different molecular weight diblock copolymers adopt either an ordered lamellar morph…
Quality Control of Agrochemical Formulations by Diffuse Reflectance near Infrared Spectrometry
2008
A near infrared (NIR)-based methodology has been developed for the determination of 11 pesticides in commercially available formulations. This solvent free, fast and environmentally friendly method was based on the direct measurement of the diffuse reflectance spectra of solid samples, a hierarchical cluster classification and the use of multivariate calibration models to determine each considered active principle in agrochemicals. The proposed partial least squares (PLS) models used for quantification of each compound were built from specific calibration sets composed of nine spectra corresponding to triplicate measurements of a single well characterised commercial sample and two addition…
Crystallizing polystyrene microgel colloids
2007
Spherical microgel particles of sufficiently high degree of internal cross-linking and swollen in a good solvent in many respects behave quite similarly to hard-sphere colloids. Due to solvent uptake they can be refractive-index-matched and density-matched in suitable organic solvents. We present preliminary measurements of the crystallization kinetics of 1:10 cross-linked polystyrene microgel particles. We measured Bragg and small-angle light scattering of the solidifying shear melt. Two different scattering patterns, a set of Debye-Scherrer rings and a second ring pattern at small angles could be observed. We check for similarities and differences compared to previously investigated collo…
